70 Road Runner. Delco Remy 60 amp alternator with double pulley. Hard for me to accept that the alternator pulley is attached with only a press fit, but, OK. I have a good puller, but still unable to remove. Is heat needed? I worry about heat & electronics. Help, please. Thanks, Riocket

Go to an alternator shop, lol. I went through this before, i just send them out $15 or so and you are done ,some people say put the pulley in the oven and the alt in the freezer, its all BS, lol.. Take it to an armature repair shop and pick it up an hour later for $15, lol...

PS getting them off is normally the easy part, lol... I just use the puller, I put the impact wrnech on that thing, they fly right off, lol.. Its replacing it that is the son of a bitch..

I use a alternator/PS pump pulley puller. Removes them and installs them. KD Tools 2897 is the one to use or buy. Autozone usually has a free tool program, and they could have one. I also charge $15 for this.

you mite be able to remove it but you wont be able to reinstall it...Take it a shop ! Paid $10.00 on a Tuff Stuff $205.00 140amp alternator

you need a good quality puller to remove the pulley, and a press to re-install it before you put the case halves back together

Funny, I've never had any trouble getting them back on by heating them up. I put it on my gas stove burner till it's good and hot and I don't put the alternator in the freezer. It goes on very easy once it's hot, and I just put it on farther than necessary because you only have one shot once it grabs. After that, I just use the puller again to adjust the pulley to exactly where I want it. The whole process take less time than it takes to back out of my driveway.
