I am curious if there is a need to sand primer before topcoat. I have had many parts and the engine bay in primer for a few weeks.
Is there a "window" with primer or can I simply clean and shoot or do I need to create new mechanical adhesion???

I would do some sanding. Some of the epoxy primers and sealers I have used had to be top coated within 7 days.

X2, the epoxy primer I use has a top coat window of 7 days otherwise clean, scuff and shoot.

PPG's DP series could be topcoated if you shot it within like 6 hrs time. After that you have to sand. Your stuff has been sitting for much longer. You must sand it or it will delaminate[peel] like you see on some vehicles. Think white paint on chevy's, fords, mopar etc trucks and cars.

Thanks for the response guys. Hopefully the paint will be complete in the next month or so.
