SO I AM TRYING TO TRACE SOME WIRES BEHIND THE DASH CLUSTER REGARDING MY ROLLAWAY LIGHTS NOT ROLLING, AND I MUST HAVE GROUNDED SOMETHING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS AN ARC OF FLASHING SPARK AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE.

SO I GO TO TURN ON THE CAR AND THE WHOLE DASH IS BLACK, NO MORE BLUE LUMINECES NO LIGHT TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT INDICATOR, NOTHIN.

CHECKED THE FUSES DOWN ON THE LEFT UNDER THE DASH, THEY ALL SEEM TO BE OK.

GOD PLEASE DONT TELL ME I FRIED THE LUMINESENCE CONTACTS. IS THERE AN INLINE FUSE SOME WHERE?

ANY SUGGESTIONS , HELP!:icon_frown:

Well, the first thing you should do is see if the transformer under the glove box has power going to it from the orange wire. Also, if you turn the light switch on a listen you should be able to here a soft humm out of it. Careful with the white wire(s), they are AC voltage and can easily get your attention.

Ok I will check that, BTW the guages seem to still work inside their respected cluster. Fuel, gas , etc. Seem its just the blue lights and the emergency brake light.

No Humm, seems to be power from the transformer the light switch is new by the way. Head lights work

The dash lights are their own system that runs off of the transformer. All other gauge functions are separate systems. The next thing to do is carefully test the output of the transformer (white wire) for 200-300 volts AC. Here is a pretty good explanation of how it works and some troubleshooting steps:

Funny you mentioned that. We put a new switch in a month ago, but the old one was still operating ok when we replaced it. So today we were going to do just that and see if that fixes the problem, Thanks ! I will let you know.

Yeah I've gone threw a few switches in a couple years. Junk just isn't made like it used to be.

what do you mean by "seems to be power from the transformer"?

you need 12v power on the orange wire into the transformer, the white wire is the 250v out to the dash....

what type of transformer do you have?
