In 68 were 15 inch wheels standard on an R/T Charger or an option? Seen a 68 R/T that had the road wheels on it but they were 14's. The car was said to be original. I know a lot of cars in the mid to late 60's were still running 14's.

I don't know for sure.... but I think the 15" wheels were always an option...maybe standard with a hemi or something. I've seen a lot of Road Runners with 14" wheels.

I will double check my build sheet, but im pretty sure mine came with 14 inch wheels. The charger from bullet had 14's as well i believe. That was an original r/t.

14 inch only with 440. 15 were not an option but were standard with Hemi.

Perfect and makes sense as there was a tire sticker on this R/T that had 14" data. Now the code 580 above call them road wheels. When were they referred to as magnum 500. And were there just one version or were there the chrome wheels as well as the ones that have trim rings?

Never by Mopar. Chrysler called them chrome road wheels. The 'public' and aftermarket sellers called them Magnum 500's.

Trim rings were introduced in '69. '67 and '68 don't have a trim ring. The chrome goes all the way to the rim. '69 trim rings are one year only and harder than heck to find in good shape. They have a small lip on the inner circle.

my parts book says 14 15 &16

The 16" wheel is a C body application. Chargers are sourced under the W.

There's no question that one would find a 15" B body wheel in the parts book. It was available but the question is "was the 15" wheel optional on a '68 Charger R/T?". The answer is the 15" wheel was Hemi only. You could not order an optional 15" wheel with a 440.

I have a very nice set of 4 14" road wheels in storage. They have the trim rings and are almost mint. I will have to dig them out and see if they are marked Mopar of Ford as I have had and do have both. I am sure there factory wheels I will see if there date coded. If there Mopar then they should be date coded for the 69 year.
All very good information! Thank you ALL and Merry Christmas FBBO friends!
