patient is 65 satellite big block. Has been upgraded with dual field alt. and electronic voltage regulator. Recently noticed ammeter spiking to full charge? for maybe 1 minute then dropping back to normal. When this happens tach reading drops to less than half correct rpm. At first it only happened occasionally, last sunday took a 100 mile round trip & it started spiking more often(a lot). Also lost a turn signal bulb. I'm leaning toward voltage regulator going bad. Had park lights on on the way back, then realized I had lost turn signal. What you guys think?

Might also get a hand on the backside of the gauge, and check for loose connections.

think I found it. tach was grounded at starter relay. both had terrible grounds. will continue thru system checking for potential problems. thanks

That is almost funny just about an all metal car and tack ground is in the engine compartment.

Double check the ground strap between the fire wall and the engine block. Make sure connections have no paint same is true for engine ground points.
