I own a 1969 roadrunner that I had a complete restoration done on recently. My problem lies in the electrical department..The dash light stays on ,the dome light does not work..with the switch or from the door. The horn does not work but does work when wired to a separate button..The speedo does not work along with the defroster or the fan..The lights and directionals work on the outside front and back .The brake lights work along with the reverse lights. The charging meter does work.. I don't know anything about electrical...But would love to get some direction so I can get it fixed. This may help..The gauge package is out of another car..

welcome to fbbo!
do you have an electrical diagram? i'm no electrician either, and had my complete wiring out of my car. with the help of the diagram, it was pretty easy to hook everything up and all working.

Yes I have a diagram for the car along with the big shop manual...But i don't know where to start or what to do..Thanks for your response..

I'd start with just one thing. I know looking at several issues at a time would be mind boggling. Us your diagram, follow the wires and definitely check the grounds. Good luck, be patient.

Hey,I was wondering if a bad cluster voltage regulator switch would cause my problem with the gauge light staying on.. thanks Bruce

Seperate your problems. Dash and interior lights. Defroster and fan. And the speedo is mechanical not electrical. Try the defroster and fan first. That seems to be the simplest. The horn is a separate circuit. Might try that first. Get a proper tester and disconnect the battery.you say it was restored. Did this include a new harness? If you find the underdash harness is original and butchered up(typically) consider a new harness. If thats to expensive you might pull that harness out and lay it out and remove all the wrap. A lot better than working under the dash. Above all take your time,no shortcuts and dont get discouraged. A lot of guys have done it and you can too! Oh yeah, tag everything! Masking tape and a pen. A goes to A. B to B... Because you will forget how they go. Lots of notes too. I wont say good luck because luck has nothing to do with this.

Complete restoration? If the ammeter is still hooked up, its nothing to fool with. Prone to fire. Take it to someone you know or trust that does electrical. Keep an extinguisher handy, and think about a battery cut-off switch to remove all power if necessary. Make sure you have good insurance with "agreed value" if restored. Post pictures for us. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the information that people have been writing in. the harness is not a new one. I guess i will have to wait to spring to take the car to someone who could fix it.I will try to post a picture when I get a chance...Sorry 4spEd i live in rochester newyork and I don't really have a way of getting the car out to you,but thanks anyways..I also have the battery disconected...Don't need to drain the battery...Thanks Bruce..........Victiam "c" orange code 99 99 vin runner...Maybe for sale?

I agree with above comments. ...I hope you didn't pay someone to hook up your electrical. First and foremost ensure you have a good wiring harness. ...check for any damage anywhere. Secondly ensure your ammeter dies have the proper and adequate insulation at the studs....as mentioned above....high probability of fire occurring if contact failure at this point. Thirdly, check all ground ....sounds like that may be the bulk of your problems however the list is long. Don't know what stage of assembly your car is at but it's best to have the front seat out and gauge cluster dismounted. ......

Thanks for advice 704spdbuzz...I Don't know much about electrical stuff..So i guess i would ask...How many grounds are there and where they may be...Bruce
