The bullitt charger was a 4 speed. And they rigged a setup where the charger was attached to the mustang by rails, and they pulled the pins on the rails to release the unmanned charger for the crash scene

Am I missing something? I can only see one pic of an empty engine bay?!

From what I've read there were 2 chargers used in the movie, originally 1 blue and 1 yellow, both painted black for the movie. The blue one was the one that got blowed up. Not sure if this is true or not. Don't see how anything would've been left of it from that wreck.

The blue one (painted black) was the one that was crashed at the end, and was automatic, non R/T.

That is the movie car and there is nothing else left to take a pic of after it got blowed up. lol.. actually I think that wouldn't have been left either..

looks black to me...either way, great car chase.

It was black, but of the two cars used, one was yellow and one was blue before the movie paint was applied.

How did it get blowed up ? I hope my car never gets blowed up. How do you blowed a car anyway? :jerk:

I never saw the whole movie but I've watched that car chase scene several times. How is the entire movie? Is it worth watching?

its actually a very boring movie,
most of the others were much better yet unknown in mainstream.
example,vanishing point,dirt mary crazy larry,gone in 60 seconds.
( the Originals,Not the clones)
the Only good part was the chase, tbh.

also, according to the news back then,
the charger misses the gas station but they blew the charges anyways.
if you watch carefully, youll see it go behind the station.@ 6:36
kind of like how they switched out the challenger for a camarot in vanishing point for the bulldozer scene.

found this as well, after a bit of looking around.

which kind of contradicts this claim...
Purported to originally be yellow, the seller claims it was then repainted black for filming, then repainted factory yellow and finally gold prior to resale at Valley Dodge in Van Nuys, California, in 1970.

btw,ty for that link Rich.

edit, how do i keep anything ive typed after a link from getting the same effect as the link?

what a coincidence, i was just watching that chase scene on youtube yesterday. was that Charger peg leggin it? i know the stang was. looking at the 25 second mark, seems the Charger is spinning just the right wheel

I'm wondering how they crashed the charger., looks like it was somehow hooked on the side of the mustang maybe?

I like the movie. I own it on dvd and i say its definitely worth a watch. How can you not like a Steve McQueen flick

Actually, read this, its a pretty good assessment. I cant argue his points, and i like the movie for the exact reasons pointed out. The action and the background...and Mcqueens performance. He may be a bit rough on the plot though. He wasnt paying close enough attention to what was going on if he thinks it was a mob informant that was killed while in witness protection.
