On my 383 Polara, I run a vintage Edelbrock DP4B intake with a vintage Carter AVS 4966. I could really use a choke for cold starts, but the intake has no place to mount a thermostatic choke. I wonder what others have done, short of a newer carb with an electric choke.

It's a vintage carb on a vintage intake manifold, so add a vintage manual choke to it. :)

Find a donor Edelbrock carb for the electric choke. Drill and tap the same exact bioses on the old carb as the newwer Edelbrock carb has and installit just like the Edelbrock carb.

I have done this before. Use all the Edelbrock parts! OE electric choke and the Federal-Mougal Comp carbs parts work as well.

You can get an electric choke kit from Edelbrock to put on one of their carbs that has a manual choke - just put one on the #1407 750cfm Edelbrock carb that is on my R/T - the kid that put the carb on - just wired the manual choke open - it was fun to start....

My 440 has an Eddy 750 with a manual choke on the same intake and I wouldn't have it any other way. Trouble free and starts right up hot or cold.

dp4b is a good intake. used it with a 4618avs back in the day. the edelbrock electric choke will work with some simple mods.

Craigslist is a Great place to search for an Edelbrock carbs, New or used or parts, i see them there all the Time and "Cheep to Boot" !!

Would someone here be able to give me the measurements, on their Edelbrock carb, of the choke mounting bosses? I guess the distance between the bolt holes of the three choke mounts.

I think I will try to retrofit a new Edelbrock electric choke to my Carter carb. Thanks!
