Look what I found in the backyard of a house

I have a story on the flip side of this. As a 10-12 year old kid, I had a go kart. Mowed lawns, paid for it myself. A friend lived in a neighborhood with a storm drainage ditch behind the homes. We'd ride it there, not bothering anyone. We could see into the backyards. One neighbor had a blue Plymouth with a big wing, & pointed nose. We'd stop & stare like kids do. Got brave & asked for a ride. We washed the bird for a ride ,& got out impressed. Anyway, fast fwd 10 years. Go past old neighborhood, bird there. Forget the guys name, but see his obituary eventually. Ron tells me day after funeral, she is mobbed by people who want the car. Low renters, I hope none of them got the car.

I like to see people with lesser financial resources get some of the jewels. I really hate to see large groups of cars sit in warehouses....for no particular reason.

I know where there is a warehouse like that. 3- hemi chargers, 5 or 6 hemi road runners, hemi engines on the floor, when I was there they had 4-5 vcode cars, and a few a12 cars, now I hear they have tripled that...

NONE of them are restored, all of them need it... The building fits around 40 cars total, its not huge its actually on old milk barn, they poured a floor in, I dug and graded the floor... He has some pre70 mustangs, a few mid 50's chevies, and as I hear it now a few cars from the 80's, 90's... Like I said nothing done, and everything for sale BUT priced high, for instance, V-code gtx unfinished sublime car (not sure if its original sublime) $50K, NEEDS RESTO< MOTOR LOCKED, thats way too much...

I have a 66 Charger that I have been using parts from and parting the rest out. It sits on my flatbed trailer on the edge of my yard. I've had a few guys knock on my door early on a saturday or sunday morning. The problem with that is I'm an early riser so I'm usually up with my coffee in my pjs. My wife is asleep and we have two dogs that go nuts when someone knocks. One of my dogs is a 100lb+ Leonberger so she can bark. The wife get upset but I usually make a deal with some of the parts still in my pjs and slippers.

Yep same ole story over and over. I know where there's a superbird, 2 hemi roadrunners a 70 charger and several other very nice cars in a building. Not one has seen the light of day in 20 years and none are for sale. Even had a hemi crate motor still in the crate never opened. And ALL these cars are original and in almost show room condition. Very sad to know so many just sit. But nice find never the less.

Your tactics are wise and points well taken.
But if the dog was abandoned, outside in the elements on a chain being neglected, I might ask to buy it.
If I was in the market for an abused dog.

I think stories like this are kinda funny. Would you walk up to a total stranger and ask if he kid is for sale? Or is his dog is for sale? Or even if his house is for sale? Of course not, but lots of guys think nothing of going up and asking if their cars, which they may well love as much as their kids, dogs, or houses, are. At a minimum you should always open discussions like this on a complimentary basis. Stop and say "Hi. I don't want to bother you, but I noticed your cars and just wanted to tell you they look great! I love seeing cars like that and knowing they're still around." Don't ask to see them, don't ask if they're for sale. That comes after you build a relationship.

The best way to go about it is to ask them for help. Introduce yourself, tell them you noticed their car(s), and that you're trying to get one back on the road and would really appreciate it if they could answer a question or let you look at a part where you're having problems... like the headliner mounting or wiring. That opens the door to a lot of possibilities. If they are enthusiasts they'll usually be eager to help you out. If they're looking to unload them, they'll know a potential buyer just showed up. And if they just inherited them from someone and don't know anything about them, or really care about them, then you'll know who you're dealing with.

Looks like someones hopes and dreams just became someone else's hopes and dreams
