blown 70 charger progress

what driveshaft material would you guys go with on this build? guy at the driveshaft shop around here says he would just go with a mild steel 3" if its not going to the track every weekend with slicks on it, do you think spending the extra $150 on a 3.5" chromoly would be worth it?

Are you talking to "THEDRIVESHAFTSHOP.com" in Long Island or just a local drive shaft shop? I'd stay away from a local shop and go with a National Performance Vendor. I twisted the yoke on the first one I had in the car ('64) when it was just a Dual Quad Cross Ram Hemi. (came from a local Implement/Heavy Equip. drive line supplier) I went with the "4130" Mark Williams piece... As stated, "peace of mind".

If you ever intend to get traction,it will ONLY be on a treated surface like the dragstrip.I have E/T Street 16.5x31 and there is no hope from the dig,but from a roll you can get into slowly where your at WOT at the top of 2nd doing ito high gear.Otherwise the the tires will just blow off.

I have a 3 inch driveshaft done by Marty at SUPERSHAFTS http://www.supershafts.com/ which the performance part of LI driveshaft, don't forgrt the larger joints, just tell hin HEMI-ITIS sent ya:headbang:

thanks for all the advice on this! so glad for this fourm and all the nice people here! I just ordered a chromoly slip yolk from strange and the local builder is going to do a 1350 setup with a 3.5" chromoly shaft and strange chromoly slip yolk, should be sufficient! hemi-it is does your ride go pretty straight when your starting to get in it at the end of second? I have the caltracs and split mono leafs, just wondering what to expect, should also add I am starting with the kyb shocks

Once you have the Caltracs set right, and you don't blow your tires off it goes straight. Just need to be on yer toes in the event the tires loose traction. Nothing feels better than traction at WOT!!

hemi-itis , is that an oil accumulator I see mounted on the left fender or do you have a dry sump?

Accumulator that I'm thinking of removing.I'm gunna try to loose a few pounds:sign13:

doesn't look like the fans are going to clear, going to have to mount em on the outside, wonder if this thing is gonna cool ok with 2 12" fans pushing through the radiator? still slow progress, engine dyno is broke so mounting the engine to get the hood cut/painted and driveshaft measured, then pull it back out to run when the dyno is fixed.

Is a chassis dyno not available possibly at another shop? A lot of people do pusher fans so it's not like it's unusual or you could just modify the cradle and move the rad up.

yes a chassis dyno is redily available, I also found another guy who had an engine dyno redily available and could had it done a few days ago but the engine guy got kinda pissed when I told him that idea, i guess I do see the point of wanting to tune it on engine dyno, a lot of pulley swapping im sure and you wont have to worry about scratchin my nice black paint....his dyno is supposedly going to be fixed in the next week or so, I have my doubts, but I guess we will see.

car is about all cut and buffed

Black on black Charger with a blower sticking out of the hood. What a dream car. Thanks for all the sharing. She's bad assed.

hopefully I get her back soon so I can work under the hood a bit. make it so everything is either black or polished!! what would you recommend covering the plug wires in? that stainless hose sheath? also thinking about painting distributor cap black and having the wiper motor chromed

all I want to see is black and poished when you open the hood, should go nice with the smooth firewall

Looking great, thanks for the updates...

Nice to be blown...LOL

got the old girl put on the dyno today. 7.9 pounds of boost. started with initial timming at 32 and had the 6btm hooked up and set to take out 2 degrees per pound of boost so total timming was running at 16. made 800 hp "6000 rpm" and 825 lb ft "3800 rpm". set timming to 20 degrees and made 840 hp and 890lb ft, with it up at 12 psi it made 1091hp but only wanted to do 1 run like that with stock block, got her all set back to 8psi and underdriven quite a bit so she should live for a pretty long whileIMG_1260.JPG
