Starter relay bypass??

Hey guys, dumb question but do I have to use the starter relay that's on the firewall? I'm getting a DB electrical high torque mini starter and was looking at the MSD mini starters and directions, it showed just two wires to hook up, one to battery and one to 12v switched ignition. Does that mean it bypasses that starter relay completely?
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but 12v switched ign. would be the lead to the relay.
 
The starter relay is only there to take some of the load from the ignition switch
if the solenoid on the new starter is low draw then no you do not need the relay but it will not hurt to have it
 
Okay, I'm running a full msd ignition. Pro billet and 6al2 box. And the 440 source DENSO 1 wire internally regulated alternator. So I'm getting rid of a ton of engine compartment wiring and want to know if it would be okay if I were to use the high torque mini starter without the starter relay or wondering if anyone on here has done it.
 
Like Snakeoil24 said it's a neutral safety relay. The neutral safety switch provides the ground to engage the relay, eliminating it means eliminating the neutral safety as well.
 
Then get rid of the relay and take the chance of melting down your electrical harness and starter switch. Let us know how it works. I would advise to use the relay and lighten the electrical load to the rest of the start circuit.

I would use the relay. The load of the solenoid is probably to much for the ignition switch start contact.
 
What year and model and is battery in trunk? Are you using the factory harness under dash?
 
You need the relay or you will cook your ignition switch, also a 4 speed has a nss on the clutch pedal that is hooked to the relay.
 
Without the NSS wired in, you can start the car 'in gear'. Sure you want that?
 
Like I posted about the draw on the solenoid if you donot know you can check with a multi meter
measure the voltage drop and if excessive use a relay
to much draw will kill ignition switch and too low of voltage with hurt solenoid and starter

You may have to add ground wire to one terminal for it to work
 
Okay, just trying to figure it all out, my ign wire in wire bulk head J that goes to the starter relay was burned in the block and also burned in the column connector, the previous owner seemed to have straight wired the heavy red wire from the ignition switch in the column, what do you guys think might have caused both the wire at the wire bulkhead and at the ignition switch connector to the column?? I am also going to be bypassing the ammeter.

The NSS is only a ground so simply ground the terminal that went to the NSS and it will work.
