Any Southerners in this forum?

What is this MANSON NIXON line you speak of?

This is the only Mason Nixon I could find. Ugh, 20 years old.

Was born in Taxachusetts too but moved to the little town of Deer Park, Texas as fast as I could. Actually moved to Texas twice with the first time in 1960 and in 63 it stuck. Went back for a vacation in 69 and haven't been back since. Living in Pasadena now but my home is only a couple of miles from first 'new' home was. 50 years ago this place was pretty much out in the middle of nowhere but not all that far from Houston but now there's a 6 lane highway just around the corner and 0 dirt/shell roads. Used to run 60+ down some of them in my dad's pickup when things were dry as a bone

As much as I enjoy reading all the posts on this forum, it seems a majority are above the Mason-Dixon line. Are there a few Southerners on here, meaning South Louisiana, Mississippi, etc? :eek:ccasion14::eek:ccasion14:

South Georgia.

I've been to Deer park several times. I work for Shell and we have a refinery in Deer Park. I usually head over to Kemah and stay at the Boardwalk when I go there. Nice eateries over there (that's how Louisianians judge places, by food).

I'm sure all those plants in that area has caused the population boom. But you MUST enjoy the weather better there than in Mass.
:frozen tongue:

Mother is from Grayson, have in kin in Carroll. Minks, if you lived in Carroll you've heard of Mink Motors. He was a Chrysler Plymouth dealer in the 60's and 70's.

Didn't live there then but have heard of people talking about Mink Motors. Do you know Joe or Lee Saunders of Grayson they have a lot of mopars. They also have a home in Florida had a 68 Dart or Barracuda super stock hemi car that made the cover of Mopar Magazine years back.

I have seen Joe before.

New to the forum and from North Carolina. Current project is a complete restoration of a 68 GTX.

I have vacationed in Dallas several times. One of my favorite places. Fast N Loud is one of my favorite Auto shows. Ate at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill a year ago and was pretty good.
I guess I haven't been to Dallas enough to think of it as a vacation stop

Worked in the Shell Deer Park complex back in 79 and got to see the results of a what a ship looks like when struck by lightning during off loading. Luckily, I was in Lake Charles when that happened and didn't experience the 'event'. As for the board walk....I liked it much better before Tilman Fertitta got a hold of it and turned it into a freakin circus. Years ago, Joe Lees' was the best place to eat sea food on the board walk but for some reason, just as construction was getting started on the circus, the place burned down. Rumor is that he was one of the hold outs. About the same time I guess, Pappadeaux's was built on the other side of the cut into Clear Lake (not part of the circus) and for a chain, that place was pretty good too until hurricane Ike took it out. Monument Inn out by the San Jacinto Monument isn't bad but it's not as good as the others were. In San Leon, there's 3 seafood places you might want to try...Bubba's, Gilhooley's and Top Water. Gilhooley's looks like a condemned building but the food is pretty good. In the middle of Deer Park on Center Street, there's Guidry's Cajun Kitchen. From what I understand, if you like mud bugs, it's the place to go. Most of the time their seafood is good but their consistency isn't always there.

I reside in the DFW area and I too do not consider this as a vacation stop. Sports teams aside of course. The main two recreational things everyone does in the DFW metroplex is eating and shopping.:happy1:

One thing we do have is Cars and Coffee of Dallas, they hold these at various cities in the United States monthly and have a website showing attendees. If you have never been it would be worthwhile to go once. Turnout is around 1k cars each month and range from a Model T to a Ferarri.

My first visit there was for my daughters all-star softball tournament. While there we caught a baseball game and went to the Six Flags and the water park. I have 4 kids and we are thrill seekers/amusement park junkies. We decided to travel there the following year for vacation, so we actually stayed in Arlington. Same thing, baseball game, Six Flags and water park. We also found a place that has indoor rock climbing that my kids loved. My wife is a teacher and wanted to go tour where Kennedy got shot but the kids and I veto'd that. LOL

Now, 5 years later we decided to go back to Dallas area and do the same things, this time we made it a point to eat at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill. Enjoyed the food and wanted to take a ride by the Gas Monkey Garage but was told it wasn't really a tourist thing and was off the beaten path so we decided to save that for another day.

I live smack dab in between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, so for us to vacation where a theme park is it takes us 8-10 hour drive. Atlanta--7 hours, Dallas, 9 hours, St Louis 10 hours, S Carolina/N Carolina boarder(Carowinds) 8 hours, Disney 19 hours, etc. Once the new Houston Park is built that would be a little closer for us ~5 hours.

So that's why we vacation there, plus I MUCH more enjoy warm/hot weather than cold weather....
