Hi, I'm new to the boards and looking forward to the experience. I recently picked up a 68 roadrunner
with the 383 4 spd combo. I'm told the combo is original and all the casting numbers point in that
direction. the date on the block is 2/1/68. My question. is there any other numbers that I'm not seeing
on the block that defines this block for this car. I was told that they didn't stamp the block until 69 model
year. I don't want to say it's a numbers matching car if it's not. 2nd question, its painted Mist Green. Not
the most appealing, but its original. Is it important to keep the original color if it is a numbers matching
car. It does have black interior. and is there any way to find out how many were made this way. Thank's for your help.:headbang:

Welcome to the Madness !! Look on top of the block at the rear, near the oil pressure sender. A lot of 68's had a partial vin number stamped where the block meets the bell housing,

It's been a long time but I'm thinking my '68 had numbers on the bottom face of the block passenger side in front of the trans.

Are you thinking of the engine assembly numbers as opposed to the VIN numbers?

Pictured is an automatic transmission and associated VIN stamping for an automatic. The four speed should have the VIN stamped on a pad on the passenger's side.

Welcome to FBBO

just like 69Coronetrt said

in the future maybe post these kind of questions in the general discussion section
or many other appr. forum sections like;
year specific or restoration or members/projects build forum sections

it would get more attention, more views etc.
this is the welcome wagon not really a Q&A tech section,
it's more for just intros, getting to know each other, sharing a little back ground,
maybe a project/car photo here & there etc.

love the 68 RR's by the way

we love car **** {photos} around here too

good luck

Welcome to the forum! We'd love to see some pictures of your car.

If you are looking for how your car was built, look for a data plate that is screwed to the driver side fender under the hood. Also, your car may have a broadcast sheet as well. Usually (but not always) they are found under the back seat, but they can also be many other places. If you find this, take great care in removing it so you can salvage it. It will contain lots of details about how your car was built.

WELCOME FROM LONG ISLAND N.Y. 383 was standard for the 68 roadrunner .I think you could get a 383 or a hemi. mine was a 383 4 speed 8 3/4 before I made the decided to take it to the next level so to speak _DSC4818.jpg

That next level is sweet. I don't have the fender tag, but I do
Have what left of the broadcast sheet. Also have the original dealers
window sticker.

Thanks for the help and i'll make sure to post in the correct section next time.

No harm, no foul TOO,
just intended as some insight/information that hopefully helps in the future
