looking to replace my 4 shocks for a better ride, and possible better handling

Was looking at my shocks last night, turns out the rear has vintage Gabriel air shocks in it. I couldnt understand what the nipple was coming out of the top of the shock, then i followed a little black tube to a fitting that ended up in my trunk

These are fully deflated (didnt know i had them) Im guessing this is from the early 70s when you guys did these ridiculous things to cars

Anyway, just looking for a decent shock, eventually will go with Bilstiens, but for now just get something that will be better than these antiques i have now

Guy from work suggest napa sensatrak? he said they are about 50 a piece and made his truck ride way better

I know we dont have a truck, but wondering what you guys suggest? looking to spend around 50 per shock.....maybe more

again, just looking for something to get me 3-5 years, with a comfortable ride and maybe better handling

I think these shocks are shot, my car was sitting in a barn since 1985....im sure they are no good anymore

I know you said you're gonna eventually go bilstien... I really can't speak highly enough of mine. It completely changed the way my car drives and handles. I don't think you can go wrong with any sort of new shock for it.

the bilstiens i looked at were like 140 a piece?

was i looking at the wrong model?

ANybody have a link to the ones i need?

going with bilstiens from pst. Going to call and see if the discount applies for forum members yet

anybody know if they said all the hardware with the shocks (bolts, nuts etc) or if its just the shocks?

I just fitted a set to mine, rears came with bolt collars x 2 each shock (I reused my lower nut and top nut/bolt)

fronts came with washers/rubbers/nuts for top mount (reused bottom bolt)

only done one a few miles on them but they seem great!

Stegs, Looking for an update on your Bilstiens from PST. Did you get them installed and what was your impression. I have a 69 Charger R/T and need to get some shocks as well. Did you order P/N BIL7056065 (front and rear set)? Did they give you the forum discount?

Thanks in advance!

Hey yes, so sorry for the late reply

I did get them thru PST, I did get the discount mentioning the forum (thanks guys)

The shocks went on great. No issues, just bolted on. The charger before had napa brand shocks on the front and Gabriel air shocks in the back (that were deflated) LOL

The shocks front and rear went on great. Ride is night and day difference. well worth the money for sure. I would give PST and the shocks a 100% rating.

Im in the process of getting new tires (mine are from 1985) They are un safe to do any driving on anymore. I think modern radial tires will yet improve ride and handling

Oh yea, these really seemed to help with body roll/sway compared to the worn out shocks i had

PST and this forum was great. Im 100% glad i did them.

Just a side note, the car does seem to have a touch of a stiffer ride. I dont mind it at all, but that could be my worn out shocks just not doing what they were suppose too

update
Bought new tires last week. I went from 1985 BFG belted TA to 2016 cooper cobra radials

I must say, with the shocks installed....my car now rides and drives as good as a modern day car. The shocks were nice, but going to a modern radial tire was amazing. It goes straight, doesnt wander. If i hit a bump the car doesnt leave the lane.

WOW, new tires really do make a nice difference

Good deal. On recommendations from this thread I may be installing a set of bilsteins myself. Looking for a better ride too.

Bilsteins and Coopers here too. Feels as good at triple digits as it does at 70. Congrats

on the upgrades.

I listened to DennisH & got Bilsteins for my wreck. I have Coopers out back also. But, I bought them mainly for the height, 29.06 inches. Car rides better, drives better, & rpm is down 300-350 @ 65 mph. Me likey. Me listen to DennisH more often now ! Me buy DennisH beer next trip to Bay Area.

with the discount from the forum, you cant beat the price on these shocks. Its a no brainer. If you go to napa and look at their "higher end shocks" they are $100+ each.

This is the way to go for sure!
