WE MUST Raise Our Prices

A lot of them still are the weirdos - just not in a good way.

-Kurt

They're not the real mopar guys. Lots of brand-x people have these cars for making money[for decades, now]. The old-school mopar guys were in it for the real mopar experience.....and didn't care about what the cars were worth.

Hobbyists doing it all is a dream, a complete dream! Tools, Time, Shop space and experience often can not be bought based on economic realities we all are dealing with on different rungs of the ladder. Pricing today is tied up in the one-off paint job, whereas these cars undergo hundreds of hours to get that paint job BETTER than the factory did and does -- ever! Priced supplies lately? Gallon of EF8 is over $700.00! There is a market still for these old cars because they are drying up, and people are getting smarter in how and what to do to get them repaired correctly.

Donny, you couldn't be more wrong on this. Paint is super expensive but buying it is wayyyyy cheaper than paying for the paint job. I've done EVERYTHING so far, and plan on it going forward, on my superbird build. I even built the fabricated rear end housing and the front suspension. I'll be painting this car as well as doing all the bodywork, wiring, engine work, fabrication, interior, you name it. I'd rather invest in tools that I can use forever than someone else's labor that I'll use once. I could have done it at 20 as well, because if I didn't have the tools or knowhow, I always knew someone who did. I think alot of so called hobbyists are just lazy today. Part of true hot rodding is learning new skills and acquiring new tools. If I can do all this, anyone can.

I also built the building it's housed in, construction, siding, roofing, electrical, everything. Those of you who preach the can't do attitude need a few lessons from those of us that can do it all and do it right!!! Rant off, lol.

Amen brother!! I always wanted to have enough free cash to go buy the best over-restored Hemi E-body at the mopar nats from the biggest knot head jerk there and take off through the grass sideways headed for the dragstrip to flog that dog like God intended!!

THIS controversial thread is the only thing short of the "Let's see" threads to have pushed three pages in the '66-70 Mopar forum as of recent?

This is an interesting point. And so is the rest of what Kurt mentioned. Is FABO really that different/better?

Not a real smart thing to raise our prices, why not try to lower the camaros & such,I dont compare with them,& dont see why they have to be the same prices,if you over inflate the mopars,WHAT HAVE YOU PROVED? It will make your car you own now worth more but if you ever intend on buying another you will be kicking yourself,,its just like houses being over inflated, sure you will make money on a resale but you will have to pay on the next one....Sorry I dont agree with you on this one, leave it be
I'm following MJB765 thread about what his car is worth and feel it's time for all of us to reconsider prices for MOPARS.
1. There's debate if MJB's car is worth $25K or more. We shouldn't even be talking about those low numbers. A comparable Chevelle, Camaro, Mustang, etc. would be $35-$50,000. So why are we willing to remain at the bottom of the barrel for what appears to be a great car ? We should be trying to raise the prices of our cars, not suppress the prices.
2. If the sale price does not increase, it makes it near impossible to justify a restoration, or, simply upgrades.
3. With low prices that don't justify proper upkeep & restoration, the owner will sometimes part-out the car & one more muscle car has disappeared.
4. A "driver" should be $25K and great cars like MJB765 should be $50K. Only then will our cars continue to live new lives.
5. For those of us that already own MOPAR, the increase in buying price is offset by the increased value of our current ride. It washes out.
6. Have you noticed that the auctions are always proclaiming " That's a new record price for XXXX ". People looking to get into the collector car market don't want to tell their friends that they have the cheapest priced muscle car. Do you think Mercedes, BMW or Audi would be as desirable if they were $18,000 ? NO. Part of the pride associated with high-end cars is that they're not available to everyone. We must raise the prices, not hold them down.

NOW: Let the debate begin. Rocket

It's a money to members/activity ratio.

e-body forum...big bucks.... little activity.
b-body forum...cheaper cars....more activity
a-body/c-body forums.....cheaper mopars.....still more activity
f,m,j, etc-body forums....cheapest cars/nobody cares...still more activity than e-body forum

I have some fairly nice cars, but liked it better [70's-80's] when nobody gave a **** about mopars. It was about fun, and not trying to impress your fellow "car guys".

I used to LOVE having my $500 Mopar beat other peoples $3500 chevelles!

I agree. most everyone can learn to do high quality work if they desire to. $1500/gal paint is just NOT necessary either! lot of people are just spoiled a nd lazy. sorry.

fun and satisfaction is doing the work yourself, NOT in writing a check for it all!

too many people try to treat this hobby like a business. very few people make a business out of a hobby!!????
