front tires 28-7.50-15 radial equivelent? 15-4.5 rims

Looking for some skinny radial tires for the front. street/strip car 69 GTX. looking for black wall 28' tall. Any suggestions? Running M/T ET 325/50/15 on the rear.

What's the load rating on those? I wore out a set of sportsman-pros in about 800 miles.
 
That's what I bought, except in 26", and ran them for two days at the start of DragWeek 2014. I put the steelies and street tires back on which I've ran since. I will be selling them along with my Centerline REV series wheels they're mounted on.

I too pulled off the Sportsman Pros and sold them. Not a good choice for any sort of street driving.

1040 lbs, 35 PSI. I sure didn't have much luck in finding a tall narrow tire, I always ended up back to the SR. The Sportsman Pro steered like crap on the street, very unpredictable. The SR's on the 64 steers like a dream.
 
I have the sport pros now but they don't look right, for me. 1040 should be ok. Thanks for the input!
 
I was going to go with a 4" wide front rim and a skinny tire but my buddy talked me out of it since mine is mostly a street car and I am glad he did talk me out of it. I went with the 6" wheel and a 215/70R-15 front tire. Its just a basic standard radial street tire but my car handles very good on them. I guess a skinny race tire would give me a little more et but I cant see it being enough to worry about for my street car since it mainly gets driven on the street. Ron

The Sportsman Pros keep you on your toes, that's for sure. You never know if your going to head to the next lane or not, at least on the streets where I live.
The SR's solve that problem. Their is no difference in the heights between SRs and the Pros, but the SRs have a more squared edge. On my Camaro the Pros fit nice with no rubbing when turning. The SRs though, the outer squared edge will take you closer to fender lips on the front and rear when turning. I had to do some non-visual adjustments on my Camaro to make them work.

I couldn't find any other radial tire other than the SR that filled the wheel opening and was narrow enough to fit the 4" rim. I like the old nostalgic hot rodded look you'd see on these cars back 40+ years ago. The 4" fronts are part of that.
I'm often told that the old Camaro is like going back in time when you look at it. Even has the old 10 grand Sun Super tach with the chrome cup on the steering column.

What about a standard 205/75-15 radial? Like a Cornell 1000? That's what I have on my 15x4 steel rim. Drives great.

The 205/75 is certainly an alternative. For my cars I was looking for more height, less bulge on a 4" rim and a nice looking tread. I always ended up back at the SR. The 205s are about 1/3 the price though.

I love the older Nostalgia look also but my car handles like night and day difference when I compare how nice it drives with the radial tires up front and I drive on radial slicks in the rear. Its like a new Caddy the way it handles on the radials as compared to the bias tires. I think Cooker makes a tire that has the old bias look but is a radial but I believe thet are very very pricey. Ron

Yeah Coker makes some cool old school tires for sure, but they sure are pricey. I may still consider going that way because no matter what tire I use, the fronts have a better chance of dry rotting from old age than being worn down from usage.

Of course I am a budget minded fella, so I may just go with some standard issue 205's or 215's.

Hey there is a place out west a bit that is a family owned operation that makes some old vintage drag tires. Can't think of the name but I'll see if I can find them.

Here it is, guys - Towel City Racing Tires. They used to make retread racing tires but now use the molds for new tires. Old school cool pie crust drag tires and retro front runners but on a radial tire. Best part is they pretty reasonably priced. I just wish they made 12 to 13" wide rears.

The 205-75 radial does not have the skinny look to it, no matter how narrow the rim is. It has the height, but it's too wide.

Agreed Big Hemi. The person that wants both height and narrow width is limited when it comes to front radial tires. I'm not sure what tire is on this Challenger but the full fender well sure looks good. image.jpg
 
What they don't make 215/75/15's anymore.... If you can find them there pretty close too 28in tall.
