Car is a 1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite, originally a 318 ci car.
Current motor is a 451 ci big block.
I really dig the hood with the engine callout inserts, so off went the stock flat hood and on went the re-pop AMD hood with original inserts off of ebay.
I also prefer the '69 hood stripes and painted my '68 with '69 stripes.

Here is a photo of my car. Currently the hood inserts are empty. I'm debating the following engine callouts for the insert screw mounted strips:

383 (readily available, a B-motor like my 451)
440 (readily available, closer in ci to my 451)
451 (will require custom manufacture - either hammer out and re-use my 383 insert strips or find somehow jig-cut new metal and apply the 451 using stickers (hokie looking) or maybe stamp the metal if I can locate the correct font?

What do you guys think?

I'm also undecided on the color combo. I am leaning towards black insert strips to match my black painted inserts and hood stripes, but with red numbers. Other options are Red with silver numbers or the standard black with silver numbers.

I have a 68 Road runner also. Like you I went with a 69 Air grabber hood though. I put a 572 street hemi in mine though. Those 440 call outs are the type I would choose. They are for 1968. Mine are for 1968 except say 426 , but they lie. Your hood will look better with them though in my opinion. Just remember. It takes a flat self tap screw head with a flat bottom under the screw. Fastenal should carry them for you. I think leave yours 440 and let them think what they want, if you ask me. I have 800 hp under my hood, but to anyone looking under my hood, they just say...OH a 426. :)

Funny you should ask. I have a '70 Roadrunner with the callout at the rear of the "scoop" facing the windshield. The old 383 callout there had been long since faded and repainted and looked terrible on my fresh car. I couldn't decide whether to go with the 383 logo (stock) or a 440 logo to match the stroked 440 now in the car, and couldn't bring myself to spend the $50.00. For those two reasons I did nothing for 2 years!

Finally, I recently went with the alyerpal2 theory: I bought a new stock 383 callout from Dante's. Couldn't be happier, the car looks way better TO ME when I'm sitting in it, and no one knows what's under there but me...

I know! Mine have been bare inserts for almost 2 yrs now. I really want to get some in there. Thanks for the tip on the screws. I found this out previously and already have them.

BUMP!

I've got 2 votes for 440 so far and 1 for 383, need more input to make a decision. Nobody in favor of my original plan to do custom 451 callouts??

How about the color combo? Black with red numbers or black with silver? I think the red background would be tougher and I'm not liking it as much anymore.

If you want to do the 451 I had some made for my car by Dave at customautoemblems.net

He also did some for Propwash and Moparcanuck (RIP Bernie)

Custom callouts are cool...
But I like the CCW method...
493 with 383 on my scoops... Well, right now the scoops are on the hood on the car, and the cid of my Bee is 0.
You have a nice car b the way!!

Awesome. Yeah, a year ago I contacted customautoemblems as well and Dave made me some 451 adhesive stickers. They came out nice. Are yours stickers as well? They look like they have some thickness to them. I was debating whether to apply those or get some done in metal. The issue is that with the 68 style hood inserts there is not much room since they're inset and also since the originals are stamped metal, with the inset 68 style I can't just put the custom numbers on without masking the originals somehow to get the surface flat. I was thinking I need to get custom insert strips made to make the custom numbers work...

it's neck in neck! 7 to 6 to 7. I'm more indecisive than ever now haha! Thanks to the 20 people that voted.

if the car is all original, i like the stock decals, but if its not, custom all the way!

Still neck in neck : 8 to 9 to 8

I think I'm going to go with the 440 inserts for now, then if I can get some custom 451's made I'll swap them in later.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
