Can anyone tell me what size of alternator came with a 1970 RR convertible (383/Auto) with factory A/C?

thanks

Soundhd,
I believe the standard alternator for an original A/C application is an isolated field unit (two brushes and the isolated field regulator) with a dual groove sheave. This unit was rated at 46 amps at approx 14.4volts. If the car (usually a sedan) had extra electrical loads, the original alternator may have been a Leece-Neville unit rated at 60+ amps....usually supplied for police applications....light bar, radio etc. If needed, pm me for OEM part numbers.
Cheers,
RJRenton

46 amps alt is way too low for that. Definitelly Mopar underratted the car requirements from the alternator. Our cars demand quite often can be between around 45 amperes just IDDILING, not maximun. ( if you think on a rainy day at night with AC into the city traffic )

and if we think on the GIANT pulleys used, even worst numbers from them.

From the 1970 Factory service manual:

Nice! So per FSM, Mopar alts make their job over 1200 RPM! Late for the terminals at bulkhead.
