Suspension/steering for corner carver 1967 B project

OK I have an ex drag car 67 GTX that I want to turn into a handler. It has subframe connectors and an 8 3/4 with mopar performance hemi leaf packs (6/7 leafs) with OEM style shocks. The front bars are drag 0.8" or so, those I am definitely changing. There are no sway bars. All the fenders are fiberglass, hood and trunk lid are glass as well. Full roll cage and no interior. The car is as light as a 67 B body can possibly get.

I dont want to spend too much but would like to do things with this car I dont want to do on my other 99% stock B body. I have read some recent posts on here talking about torsion bars and I am stuck on deciding between 1.03" PST bars and the Firm Feel 1.12". Since the car is so light will the 1.12's be way too stiff even with a big block? What basic shocks should I consider for handling with OEM style suspension?

Also have a steering dilemma. Since its a drag car the steering is manual. Is it possible to get away with manual steering? I'm thinking not so am looking at OEM style power steering boxes but trying to limit cost.
 
1st & foremost
Good shocks, front & rear sway bars, bigger torsion bars,
lighter weight rims & a wider footprint/taller wider stickier tire
Quick ratio steering would help too

check out QA1 they have stuff you can do 1 piece/part at a time too, affordable too
weight reduction helps a ton, literally...LOL

Literally almost easy peasy bolt on, with little to no mods
IF you don't want to, you can still run Torsion bars &
std OE style steering{behind the spindle-axle/rear steer},
I did go with SPC Upper double adj. tublar control arms instead of the QA1's
they were adjustable on the car, much easier for fine tuning...

{reverse rotation like a FWD Omni power rack}
I went to a Unisteer Rack & Pinion {Omni style}, it's like $1000 for power steering
& I personally would NOT recommend it, albeit I do like it now,
with some bump steer corrections & I was going to custom built headers anyway,
but it really limited on "out of the box/off the shelf" headers & oil pans etc.

I'd do the Flaming river quick ratio box or even the Borgeson box IF I was to do it over again
or just do a front steer style like a Mustang II fab up a different shaft,
make more room for headers & bigger FC style pan...

when the cars moving it will steer fine with a manual box, for the most part
as long as your not doing long track attacks...LOL

you can get sway bars from a bunch of different places
I got the Summit Brand {they are Hellwig's IIRC} last time
& I like the quality fit & feels solid hugs corners great,
I live in the sticks on windy mtn roads...

Firm Feel Stage 2 or 3. Bilstein shocks tuned for Mopar work good for me. Purchase here from PST. What does your car weigh? My R/T goes 3850 lbs.
 
Talk to Dick and Firm Feel and see what he says. If you have the weight of your car it will help.

So much can be done with stock style suspension. It all depends on how good at cornering you want the car to be.
 
Thanks Budnicks, I am taking the advice. Bilstein shocks, bigger bars, and hellwig swaybars. I picked up a new OEM power steering box.
 
Value for dollar Bilsteins were the best investment I ever made to my stock suspension. Completely changed the way it handled and the car corners flat!
