Low Profile Air Cleaner Options???

Hey guys,

I got my 440ci R3 small block all built and stuffed into my 74 Roadrunner. The new build configuration consists of a 360-3 INDY hi rise single plane intake and a QFT Q-950R carburetor. I don't have my hood on yet but i know for a fact hood clearance is going to be an issue.

So, on that note, can anyone point me in the right direction for low profile air cleaner options? The only real vender i've found so far is Spectre. They look to make a great product but there must be some other companies out there with other options.

Any help is much appreciated!

I use a drop base bottom with a 3" K&N filter with a filter top. The drop bottom is generic so could be Spectre or MrGasket. I've had it for years. They made 1 for Carter and 1 for Holley. I can measure the drop if that helps and maybe you can find a 2" filter

Yeah that would be great. What diameter filter is it? 14"?

That one just might work.... 2.75" height with 3" filter.

hey Beeper, did the K&N 3040 work for you?

You know you could have gained more clearance by spacing the k frame down 3/4" or so. Simple,cheap and effective.

Summit also has a search feature where you can sort drop bases by the drop amount. The most I see is 1.75", which is what I am running with a 16" diameter.

Yep.... Worked like a charm. Fits with about 1/8" to spare.

Thanks, I just ordered the kit. If it proves too tall, K&N has a 2 5/16" element. Talking to K&N today, the 3" filter flows 807 CFM while the 2 5/16" flows 609 CFM. Big difference, that's why I'm starting with the one you have.

BTW, awesome looking engine compartment.

That is a big difference. Is that CFM with just the filter or are they taking into account the lid too? With that open element lid, these "suckers" really flow.

I didn't ask; within the context of the conversation I interpreted as meaning with the lid on.
