My dog was going crazy. When I went out in my backyard I found these

I live in CA but the rest of my family lives in Minneapolis. I go up there quite often and these wild turkeys are running loose all over the city. Six, 7, 8 at a time. They've gotten to be quite the nuisance. How come I never saw any of those when I was hunting for them?

We have a flock/gaggle/brood WTFE they are called Turkeys, of about 30 of them
coming by our place, thru an easement & back into the back 40,
pretty-much every day, we have a crap load of coyotes, occasional Mtn. Lion
or Bobcats in the summer, that will thin them out...
Domestic neighbors cats/dogs get the hatchlings too..
We have lots of babies/jacks/turkeys walking strutting around early fall/winter,
they are breeding right now too, the males/roosters are all showing off...
Wish I could blast a few, but I have a Game Warden as a neighbor,
but he hates Turkeys, they are freaken' mean with kids...LOL

Same thing with Mule deer it's a superhighway for wildlife thru here...

My lab pup Elvis {9 months now} goes nuts over the Turkeys & Deer too...
Especially in the dusk & dawn hrs, they are really thick...

I'll try to remember to get some photos

Excellent. We had 8 in our yard, last fall. The Tom was trying to impress the ladies. It was fun to watch.

I just saw a large "group" of turkeys in a condo development yesterday. There were easily 8 Toms with their "display" fully deployed trying to attract the ladies. These birds were HUGE!! The females had to be 20lbs min dressed. They live in a green belt in the city so no one messes with them and they become VERY BIG! Made the birds in the OP's pics look like Quail by comparrison!

When I lived in Rancho Murieta in southeastern, Sacramento co./Sloughouse area we had them by the 100's, especially by the river & on the 2 golf courses...

The rural valley/suburbs is thick with them or was anyway, it's been almost 8 years now...

Turkey season starts in 18 days in GA, I cant wait.

Living here on Cape Cod, these things are all over the place. They are in my yard, the neighborhood and even the highways! On and off Cape.

Love that dog, chocolates are my favorites.
My daughter thinking about a dog and i keep suggesting a Lab. My neighbor has a male chocolate a very big dog has a good temperament, just a nice animal. When my granddaughters were little and went to the sitter she watched some other young children and she had a chocolate lab that was excellent and gentle, trusting with those kids. The only thing was i noticed the few times i picked the kids up,the sitter had to put the dog in another room. Seems i wasn't getting out of the house with the kids as the dog was protective of them

The turkeys that is

we get loads of them passing the house everyday. some sort of natural trail for them I guess. Drives the dogs nuts!

Were they the 81 proof or the 101 proof type?

Across the street neighbors dogs were going crazy night before last.

Wife also heard odd creepy noise associated with the barking.

Both went out with flashlights.

Sounded like dog/owl/horse hybrid.

SUPER creepy.

No sign of neighbors or any other interest.

Must have been chupacabra, but could have been barred or screech owl.

If that was 15 feet from my house rather than 500, my *** would have been out with spot lights and a shotgun, pending real owl confirmation.

anyone see the episode of "nature" where the guy raises the clutch of wild turkeys from eggs and becomes their "mother" ? It is quite touching and informative ....

They are a curse at my place. Plus, they destroy the pheasant population, as the Turkey's eat the pheasant eggs.

Only once in my yard I have 4 huge dogs ! I had 3 decide to come on in ,it was a one way trip ! I would call it a masicure ! They didn't stand a chance oh well obviously they weren't from around here all the wild animals know to stay clear of my yard !

Boy Bud, he is really growing up!!

Thanks
He's got a Pea/Puppy brain & a Rhino's build, solid muscle, wrecking crew...LOL

He's going to be bigger, than most of my labs have been, he's over 80# now @ 9 months
I'm thinking maybe 100#'s fully grown, if he continues like he has been...
I contribute mostly to good genes/blood lines, good quality food & lots of exercise...

you got that right ...and the pheasants do not eat the "Honey Wagon" slop...." excreta or manure", the left overs from the geese!

they are truly a nuisance :icon_cry:
