Hello I need to replace my original gas tank on my 68 RR. I do have the shop book on how to, but does anyone know of a video or step by step to compare? What issues may I see getting into it? And I know their are a million vendors who sell tanks from Vans to Year one $$ . Has anyone done this work and purchased the tank, sending unit, straps ETC .Just looking for some advice. Thanks a lot.

Spectra makes a good gas tank, I've had good luck with them. Just think, do you really want the cheapest tank to carry GAS? But try to save the original insulator pad, which you can trace out and make another out of some tar paper to save a buck. Also try to save the sender, as the reproduction units all seem to have their issues regarding calibration. You can find many discussions on how to adjust. Please think safety, have a fire extinguisher on-hand too.

Piece of cake job.... and aftermarket sending units aren't good. Just siphon out the gas as best you can, disconnect the lines, wire to sender & ground strap at sender, unbolt the long "j-bolts" and lower the tank on your chest and slide it out from under the car... easy peasey.... oh yeah, and watch the filler neck because it might have a little clamp holding it in place too. When you put your new tank back in, it helps to have a piece of plywood/jack or maybe a friend or two to hold the tank up while you get the nuts on the J-bolts started & after that it's easy too.

"and aftermarket sending units aren't good"

Wonder where they're made?

....and on a side note....I would dis-connect the battery before you start the removal and replacement.

You wouldn't want any source of spark around any fumes that might come out of the tank.

I went with one from right stuff detailing, got it from summit. No problems at all
