I started looking for the replacement kit for all of the steering components. I looking at several types of kits from different manufacturers with different components and called and talked to several "tech" people. I assumed the kits would supply a ball joint that replaces the one in the pitman arm, oh how wrong I was! It appears that replacing the ball joint is not an option in the pitman arm, you use what you have or buy a NEW pitman arm. Really....?!! All the aftermarket suppliers and nobody sells this ball joint? I know the damn thing wasn't in there as part of the forging, it was pressed in after the fact. Why can't it be pressed out and refurbished with a new ball joint? Unless some of you have a solution I guess I will be forced to buy a NEW pitman arm just to get the ball joint to the tune of about $130 or so. Thanks for your thoughts gents......frustrated in Alaska!

No different to any other steering/suspension joint apart from some idler arms. Tie-rod ends or the ball joints are the same - You don't replace the joint part, you replace the whole thing as they're not made to be serviceable.

Is there measurable side play in the pitman arm?

Pitman arms at Summit aren't $130. Can't remember what I paid but it wasn't that much and worth the cost of....

Okay fellow members, I thank you and excuse my bitching. I will be going down that road for a new one as well as the rebuild for the rest of the steering components. After reading a lot of posts on this subject of steering, I am pretty sold on using Moog parts to ensure the quality. Unfortunately, a lot of the vendors aren't sure of their own kits and where the parts come from. Some could be Chinese and some might be Moog, depends on where they get the best deal. The last thing I want is some piece of the steering failing at a critical time. Thanks

Just cause it's Moog doesn't mean it's not Chinese.

Really? For some reason I assumed Moog was not Chinese made and therefore of good quality. Maybe asking an opinion of who the fellow members felt provided good quality components, would be a more appropriate question? Too many variables, I obviously don't know enough about Moog and steering components to make a decision yet.

I ask the question earlier, Moog vs PST. Most people picked Moog because they thought it was made in the USA. Then someone chimed in, redirected us to another site and talked about how your Moog parts may be from China, Germany, Japan or the U.S.
Welcome to the global economy.

So far, I've never got a Moog part where the box said made in China......don't mind Japan, Canada, Germany or Mexico but I won't accept any front end parts or bearings made in China and I tell them that if I'm about to order something and any front end part that comes with made in China gets sent back. I just called a guy about his new ball joints being made in China and to get something different. Hell, my ball joint socket wouldn't even fit the damn thing....the ball joint square was too big!

I must have been lucky when I got my Moog suspension parts, ball joints, tie rod ends a few years ago, they are all made in U.S.A., the bushing kits were made in Mexico. Even my idler and pitman arms were made in U.S.A.

ALL MOOG is made in ST. Louis, Missouri -- except for all the bushings now that are all made in a MOOG plant in MEXICO because of "disposal of waste" laws -- you can't just DUMP anywhere you want
without ramifications -- especially with the EPA here in the United States....

If however you want an AMERICAN made Pitman Arm -- you WILL NOT be able to get a MOOG for the 1962 - 1970 "B" Body -- the K780 has been DEAD for many, many years now....
There is ABSOLUTELY no way to get just the pivot portion -- as many people have indicated to you....

If you do not want the overseas made Pitman Arms of all of these mail order outfits -- I have U.S.A. ones -- but they are $ 139 + $ 8 shipping to Alaska....
You are welcome to call -- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935 .... New York.....
