I'm trying to un-modify my six-pack carbs and put them back stock. They're 70 4spd carbs 4382/4375/4383.
1. What is the stock accelerator pump cam? white?
2. What position did the accelerator pump cam screw come in? Anyone have a pic?
3. What is the original squirter? 31?
4. Original outboard springs? brown/purple?

Also, I've never run the carburetor stone/filter/spring type fuel filters on the carburetor inlets? Are those a good/bad idea? I do run a standard Fram 3/8" inline fuel filter. Is there anything else I'm forgetting? Thanks Everyone!:headbang:

You might find some helpful info. either here or from Holly directly...... http://www.chicagocarburetor.com/carburetor-parts.php?c=2354

they used a white cam with a .031 squirter, #1 hole. yellow springs for '70-'71, purple for '69. the corvettes used the brown spring. i don't think there's anything wrong with the sintered bronze filters. they're spring loaded if they get trash in them. the factory carbs never came with the bronze filters. there's a lot of negatives floating around about the bronze filters but in my opinion it's typical rubbish. i use the factory vapor separator but do re-work it. also i do mods to the fuel pumps (iuse a carter 6903).

Thanks again lewtot184 & sixpaksteve! I will try to check the spring part number from the diagram and see if it's the tall yellow spring or the short yellow spring in the '70 carbs. Anyone know off the top of their head?

Also, lewtot184, please describe your vapor separator. I'm not running one, but I've thought about it before. I have the rubber-plug-type center carb (no charcoal canister & valve) and I run a Holley blue electric set at 5-6psi & run a rubber hose from the regulator on the inner fender to the stock upper fuel lines (shielded from headers as much as possible).

the original carbs had the long yellow spring. the vapor separator i've used is the factory re-pop with factory lines. the return orifice is too large so i reduce that opening. also, the inlet and outlet nipple may need to be opened to .25 i.d.

The Vapor Separator I'm familiar with is also the factory re-pop for my 1970 E Body. My car runs great with the Separator un-modified and they're available from alot of vendors....

OK, I've seen those things, but I have no idea where they go, how they hook up or exactly what they do. Can anyone tell me? thanks!

they bolt to one of the fuel pump bolts. they're set up for 1/4" return line back to the tank. the problem with the re-pops is the return orifice is too large. the originals had a .060" return orifice with an 8lb two valve pump. to my knowledge that hipo pump isn't available anymore. it was a combo specific thing. i've done some bench and road tests with the larger orifice re-pops and they return too much fuel. they have big pressure swings and are a power loss. if all you do is drive and you have a pump that will maintain 6lbs then you may not know the difference. i soft solder the return nipple up and re-drill with a .031"-.035" hole. this stabilizes the pressure when using 6-7lb street pumps. i don't use electric pumps or regulators.

Here's a pic of a 1970, 440 E body 6 Pack engine detailed the way the factory assembled them. You can see the Seperator to the right of the [painted] fuel pump, and as Lewtot184 mentioned, the Seperator bracket went on top of the fuel pump flange and under the front fuel pump bolt. On the bottom of the Seperator, a short piece of hose connected the fuel pump to the Seperator, and then next to it you see the return nipple. A longer length of hose went here and then it transitioned to steel line going back to the tank. On the top of the Seperator is the outlet nipple that feeds fuel to your carb's.

All of this is how it works/looks for a 1970 E Body and it's all available in reproduction including the correct type clamps and the hoses with the correct markings. Hope this helps..... :)
