Brake MC pushrod??

So I've decided to replace my master cylinder. 71 charger 318 with drums all around. No brake booster. So I took the lines off and then the pushrod was unscrewed from the brake pedal. I've read that the pushrod can be forced out of the old master cylinder, just damaging internal parts I don't care about anymore. But can the pushrod then be put into a new master cylinder? Does it just get shoved in to the new master cylinder? I've looked for master cylinders that come with the pushrod already in but can't find any for a non booster drum/drum application. So I'm just staring at this master cylinder with a pushrod stuck in it really good and figured I'd best turn to the helpful pros at fbbo. Thanks for all the help past and future guys
 
That looks great!! Do I need to reuse anything from the old pushrod? Clips or any of the piston guts I just ripped out of the master cylinder? Thank you!
 
I do not remember, I used a disc/drum master cylinder in my process. Might as well put the old parts in a box for later reference. Good luck.
 
curious, isn't it just a snap ring thats holding it in there?

Nope, that adjustible pushrod should bolt right in place of the old one. Looks like it comes with a new rubber grommet (on the mc end).
 
So I can't upload pictures but I'll update. It's done. Here's what I did. Used a sledge and a price of 4x4 wood to knock out the pushrod from the piston after I removed the snap ring. The snap ring holds the piston assembly in the master cylinder. I could knock out the pushrod by itself so I removed the rod/piston as one unit. Then I used the wood again to hold the piston on the lip of the wood and sledge hammered out the pushrod. Got a master cylinder from advanced. Bench bled it. Then I installed the master cylinder in the car. Then I took the pushrod and installed the rubber washer thing on the end of the pushrod. Then I hooked the pushrod to the brake pedal. Then I ligned up the pushrod so it would go straight into the master cylinder and hit the brake pedal. Took a few good pumps but you'll feel the rubber washer thing pop/lock into place in the master cylinder. Probly would have been easier to just order the new rod(assuming it comes with the rubber washer part) but whatever it's done and the brakes work great! Thanks again for the help guys
 
I pulled mine out while it was in the car. I just Yankee really hard on the brake pedal (figuring that the brake pedal has some nice leverage and has the perfect alignment). Worked great, just took a few good yanks.
