Ok...so I have my 440 motor rebuilt and want to break it in on the run stand before putting it in the car. My car has a 727 so I borrowed a bell housing and flywheel from some friends to run it on the run stand. The bell housing is a Lakewood style blow proof and the flywheel is a stock fly wheel. After bolting the starter, it appears that the starter will not connect with the flywheel because the flywheel is too small. I was told that the Lakewood style bell housing takes an 11" flywheel and the stock flywheel is 10.5". Can anyone confirm this? I have a buddy that has a small block bellhousing that I can borrow if it will work. Can anyone confirm if that will work? thanks in advance for your help

Take a look at the rear of the Lakewood housing. It may have a provision to move the starter nose pot inward to allow use of a 10-1/2" 130 tooth flywheel.

Note the two holes in the picture here.....................

Also click on the "instruction" tab in the link....

unfortunately, this bellhousing does not have the option to move the starter because there appears to be a cone/support that holds the nose of the starter that is not movable. this bellhousing looks to be pretty old and been around the block a few times

Sounds like your looking for an 11" wheel, or cutting and pasting on an old Lakewood to make it work, or finding another housing that will work. Sorry. Good luck!

Guess I am back to square 1 again. trying to find something used is hard to find since I will have no need for it again after the motor is broken in. I was able to locate someone that has a small block bell housing that said I could borrow it but he didn't know if the small block would bolt up to the big block or not. do you or anyone happen to know that?

Small block housing will not bolt up. Forgot to mention that in my post.

Jim,
Here's another possibility (with some imagination). If you could find one of these that has not been opened for the 11". Look closely at the picture in particular at the starter hole. You'll see an outline of the area to remove to use an 11". The bolt holes could work as a template to mod your bell maybe(?).
So the picture portrays "10-1/2" ready".

I can tell you for a fact that the Lakewood 15535 requires an 11" flywheel. Lakewood used to sell an 10.5" flywheel/starter adapter kit however it is discontinued.
