71 -74 road runners

Hey Mac, Keep up the good work. I will send you some good pictures of the '71 soon. Are going to go all the way up to '80 with your registry, or just to '75, as this is the last year for RM vin.

i am going to try and get all years represented. it sounds a little ambitious, but i am willing to try as long as there is interest.

71 t0 74 Road Runner doors

My first day on this FBBO. Question for all of you. Are the doors for the 71 and 72 Road Runner (or Sebring or Sebring Plus) different than the doors on the 73 and 74? Auto Metal Direct carries doors for the 71 and 72 but no listing for the 73 and 74. I recently bought a 73 U code Road Runner. the driver door is in bad shape, but rest of the car is very good. A body guy told me that a new skin or a new door would be better than trying to repair current door. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site. I'm pretty sure the doors are different. If you look at some pictures here on the 71-74 forums, you'll see that the 71's and 72's have a lower body line that runs through the doors and meets up with the front and rear fenders and arcs over them,(continuous). The 73's and 74's have the same (rear) fender contour but it dissipates as it moves away from the fender. The 73 & 74 front ends are totally different. It is quite a bit harder to find body parts for us; I am in the same boat as you, I have a 73!
Good Luck!

tried to use the link and got the message that the site has been disabled.

So the front fenders from a 74 satellite wont fit a 73 roadrunner?

Can someone help me with the interior codes here? I dont understand what a deluxe interior is and what is white and what is black when it says white/black? What does the deluxe steering wheel look like?

Yes they will fit and so will the doors from a 73 or 74. They are the same from 73 and 74. Virtually everything from a 73 will fit a 74 and vise-versa. It's the 71 and 72 front fenders and doors that won't work. Go into the 71 to 74 forums and look at one of the Picture posting threads.

Then what you wrote is confusing cause it seems like you said the 73 and 74 front ends are totally different. I was confused as when i look at my 73 and 74 they look the same. Now if you had added than the 71 or 72 that would have been less confusing

Sorry, it wasn't intentional. I am a rotating shift worker and half asleep much of the time as well as entering pre-senility. What I should have said was that that the 71 and 72 cars are much the same with minor changes, IE: rear bumpers and or trim. Likewise, the 73 and 74 cars are even more identical with each other. There are some items though that can be shared for all 4 years such as dash and instrument clusters. I believe that the trunks are the same for all 4 years. I might be wrong but it sure looks like it to me. I always liked the 72 rear bumper/taillights and would like to change mine to one. I think it would work. Oh well. I hope that you are able to get the parts you need and that everything works out for you. There are a whole lot of folks on this site who are a hell of a lot more knowledgeable than myself. Good luck to you.

The 74 trunks are different than the 71-73 cause the gas tank has a camel hump and causes the trunk to have a hump also at least inside. O and np

The main differences between 73 and 74 are:

1. Hump in the trunk.
2. The 73 hoods have air inlets to the rear and 74 don't.
3. Lower quarter panel covers for 74 are two piece (73 are one piece) to accommodate retractable seat belts, also 74 only.
4. 74s are supposed to be the only year with the ignition bypass button under the hood, but I did have this in one 73.

The air inlets on a RR or a Satellite as either I don't know what you are talking about or the 74 satellite I own doesn't have that

Once again I am guilty of my own bad wordage. What I meant was the (trunk lids) only!
No wonder I always feel like punting on first down!

Vent grilles in the hood.

The let air (and leaves) pass through to the cowl vent screens.

74 doesn't have them.

Ok there is something wrong with my 74 satellite as it has those cowl screens
