Hey guys,

Wanted to know your different setups out there for motor plates. From what I've been able to find, I'm usually seeing the plate in the front and just a trans mount and thats it. Curious to know is their something I'm missing here? Seems like quite a bit of weight to hold up by just a front engine plate and trans mount... What did/have you done on your cars? Thanks.

Some cars will have a mid-plate[between motor and trans]. I've never had an issue with the setup you're showing and describing, though. I've had cars setup both ways.

Don't forget to buy or fab a limiter for fore and aft movement. The trans mount won't handle it and the plate won't keep it from happening.

For the last 15 years, all I've had was elephant ears and a rubber trans mount.Limiters are on the top of the list now along with a parachute mount and "J" bars.
My junk weighs almost 3900 lbs and gone 145mph,,,,,,,,so far.

I don't have the car anymore but one day I was standing on the side and looked across the front plate (didn't have a rear one) and you could see a pronounced bend in it. You could also see where the fire wall was acting as a stop for the right side head. Mine had a lot less motor as it was only 2950 and went 134....

I have a front plate as well as a mid plate. I'm also adding limiters as the car is currently under construction.

I have a front plate, a poly trans mount, and a fore/aft limiter. 3900 lb car and been over 150 mph in the 1/4.

Do you guys have any pictures of your fore/aft limiters? Only using one or one on each side of the engine?

I just have a steel tube w/ a heim joint on each end (Comp. Engineering kit). One end is bolted to an existing lug on the back of the trans case, just above the pan rail. The other bolted to an "L" bracket I made that's bolted to the trans crossmember.

Use a plate ,the ears can flex from not being tied together. the plate actually hold sthe motor better than the factory mounts when done correctly. i like to tie the plate into the front cover at the bottom bolts. When using a plate you should have a control for fore/aft movement as the plate isn't as strong in this direction. You can attach at the engine or at the trans as I have here. Standard trans mount works fine.

Midplate is the next step but in a standard chassis door car they can be hard to fit around the headers. Mine has been fine without one to 9.0@151.

Dvw,that certainly is a full plate ya got there. Here is elephant ears bolted to a saddle held on with a band clamp. The midplate is a bit more substancial.

My fore/aft limiter looks almost exactly like DVW's, except I only have one.

DVW's setup solves a lot of packaging issues. I'll be imitating it.

DVW has proven to be that his method was do-able.I've been told NOT to do that way as it can break the ears off the trans.I first put Elephant ears on my car about 20 years ago,had to tighten the water pump bolts every time I was in the engine compartment and put up with fixin leaks.
Swithed to a thick one piece plate and that's the way it's been for 15 years. So I will install limiters that way and even PAINT my crossmember,,,,,it could use a fresh coat....LOL

I have one limiter, attached to the engine-block and k-frame.

Probably no worry of water leak, any in it? I'll bet it's a touch faster than 9.0 to boot.

To be honest when i did it that way I couldn't get an answer. whether it would work. If you don't try, you won't know. It has passed it's initial 300 run trial.
