Hi Bob,
Let me see if I can help you here.
The tallest numerical gear set you can get for a Dana 60 is 3.54
Now in a Dana 61 housing you could get two ratios taller than a 3.54 which are 3.07 and 3.31
However the pinion is moved over 3/8" over on a Dana 61 housing compared to a Dana 60.
This was done to accommodate the larger diameter pinion gears needed on the 3.07 and 3.31 gear sets.
You have to have the right gears for the correct housing. The Dana 60 housing is made different inside
compared to the Dana 61 and does not provide the space needed to install the taller gears.
Hope this helps.

Had no idea thanks

Were Dana 61 3 23s available on 67 gtx
Dana 61 rearends were never used in cars. The only cars that got Dana 60 rearends were Hemi and 440 6-pack cars.
No 3.23 gears were ever made for a Dana 60/61 from the factory. If you want 3.23 gears for a Dana 60 you have to buy them aftermarket from Strange Engineering for $395 a set.

The OEM manufactures started using Dana 61 in about 1977 as there way to try and increase fuel mileage in pickup trucks and vans.
I personally have a Dana 61 in two of my cars and a 79 Ford F250 6600# GVW pickup that came with 3.07 gears.
My 74 Duster has a cut down Dana 61 from another 79 Ford F250 with 3.31 gears and I also have a 69 AMC Rambler
that has a 3.07 gear set in it.

My understanding was that 4 speed 440 cars, such as a Charger R/T also had Dana 60's, not necessarily just 6-packs. I could be wrong...

You are correct. You used to be able to get 3.33's over the counter for Dana 60 but have not seen them in ages. Still have a set in fact. Personally have not seen a 3.31 for Dana 60 although I have a C-body 4-speed with Dana 53 (9-1/4") with that gearset.

The 3.31 gears are from a Dana 61 that came in pickups and vans,

I would like to see your 3.33 gear set for a Dana 60

The part number and date are on the ring gear. Would be great information.

my bad. wondered about that

thanks to everyone, think we will just buy or trade our 4:10 ring and pinion for 3:55s. if we buy new gears, what would be fair on our old gears?

Used gears can be a crap shoot so they usually don't bring much. If you know they were quiet when they were pulled, 75 maybe a bit more? It's not easy to set them back up in a different case and get them to be in the same wear pattern.....
