What is the best "mini" starter I can get to fit around my heaman headers on my 440. Just wanting to get the most bang for my buck.

I installed a mini-starter years (8-10) ago. I'd have to check my records, but I used one from a later model Dodge truck. Don't remember what year truck.

DENSO builds one
(Denso is a very High Quality Japanese made unit)
You can get it through Summitt racing
I think its called a Tuff starter?
I have 2

I just purchased one through dB electrical and it the headers were still hitting the starter. They were actually worse off than with the original OEM starter. So would that tuff start moutn and work correctly with the headers?

I bought my Denso starter through Mancini Racing - but they're pretty much all the same. Just got my engine running in the car and it fires right up.

It is a tight fit, i will not want to have to pull the starter any time soon. Are the headers hitting on the terminal? Most Densos' have extenders that need to be removed. Post #337 shows pics of where to unbolt.

No the headers are hitting directly on the side and the bottom of the cylindrical starter motor. I was thinking about taking a hammer to the headers but the fit is so bad I would practically have to flatten out the tubes that are hitting.

Do you know what brand headers you have?

I can confirm that the 5903 competition hooker headers will fit any starter. Fits with power steering and column shift and OEM starter, 440 headers on a 383. I would call headman.

440 headers on a 383 why not?

440 headers on a 383 why not?
that's what I have. 440 headers on a 383. It works, the collectors hang lower and are close to the 727 pan but otherwise they fit well. 1 7/8" with 3" collectors.
