Checking out a 70 gtx for a out of state member . He asked " take a pic of the fender tag, vin, bin sticker on door, and stamps of drip rail/rad core support. The basic pedigree stuff" I am not familiar with manual transmission where would stamping's be on it? And what stamp on drip rail/core support is being referred to. Doing this this afternoon 5/3/16 so posts after 3 pm eastern not needed. Thanks

There should be a machined boss on the right side of the transmission with the VIN stamping on it. You'll need a floor jack to get underneath to see....

The radiator support numbers will be stamped either be on horizontal section like this one shows...

....or stamped on the vertical support against the radiator

Wow, that car is still for sale? I looked at it a couple years ago and ran away. Lots of rust and they couldn't even get it to start. Best part is they wanted over $30K for it!! Didn't even bother checking numbers because it was so rough. Looks 100 times better in the pics than in person. Hopefully they've come way down in price!!

yup, that's the one. Those idiots selling it think it's worth $80K. Are they still asking way too much for it?

80k? Maybe it's privately owned by the business owner and he just likes having it on display? And you never know... get someone who just HAS to have it. And I presume it is unrestored.

Story is that it was a local barn find...at least that's what I was told a couple years ago. It's been messed with some like an electric fuel pump but it's pretty original looking. Lots of big bubbles in the rockers, quarters, rear window areas. It's a car with a lot of potential but not for 30 or 40k.

Think it will go for a whole lot less . Talked at length with the sales Mgr..

Hope so. But the fact he's had it there for over 2 years and still hasn't sold it...

New guy in charge of the sales floor . Doing a fire sale on vehicles that have been sitting. Looked over a older E350 while I was there.

There is so much more to look at besides those numbers, though it is significant. If ultimately you want a # Match original. All sorts of other stuff needs to be looked at. Otherwise the restoration will be quite expensive. G
