i guess i neglected to mention brown dawg's name, which is Gypsy.

Spent some good time in the garage with Coach over the weekend. I must have been boring or took him on to long of a walk.

well, here's the new addition. rescued her last week. Zelda. 13 week old. to get Freya to stop pestering Pandora.
these two go at it all day, between naps, eating, shitting

She's {they're both} pretty darn cute too...

No garage pics. Here's the choc lab, Mocha, she's out at my mother's boyfriends farm. The cat below is Harley, but she's actually 8 years older than that pic. Both are great members of the family and Harley is one hell of a hunter. I was is the garage one nice evening a couple weeks ago and heard a commotion on the front porch and found Harley with a bat under her paws. Thankfully it didn't bite her. Still not sure how she caught a bat under a covered porch. Like I said she's a hunter.

So Mocha recently turned 10 years old. We've been noticing some issues with her hips and she's started having some trouble on the stairs the last 6 months or so. I've been taking her on regular walks around the neighborhood. It would get to 6:30 or 7 in the evening and if I hadn't taken her out yet, she'd start whining and bugging me until we went. She loves going out on those walks. We'll also give her a rawhide bone and she loves to show it off to everyone. She'll play keep away with it and we'll throw it down the hall and she'll chase after it. So last Sunday all is normal expect that she didn't come upstairs with that night. Normally when we get up in the morning, she's ready to eat and is bouncing around wagging her tail and ready to eat. Monday morning, I get up and she didn't get up right away, she hardly wanted to move. We knew something was wrong. Took her to the vet, they looked her over and thought there was fluid in belly. But her gums where still pink, eyes ok etc. They recommended an xray, they were concerned because the internal organs were not clear as they should be. They recommended taking her to MSU Vet school since they have ultrasound and can get a better idea what was going on. Or they could do exploratory surgery or if money was an issue but her to sleep (not a chance). So the concerns at this points are internal bleeding and/or cancer. At MSU, they did an ultrasound and the lungs looked good, no nodules. They were concerned though because she having some irregular heart beats and some of her blood counts weren't real good. Again pointing to internal bleeding. So the plan was surgery to first see if there was an evidence of cancer, if it there was and it had spread then close her and not wake her. Thankfully there was only a mass on the spleen and no evidence of cancer. Good prognosis so far but the heart was still a bit of an issue. She stayed there until Thursday afternoon. Her heart stabilized and we took her home. She started perking up very quickly once back home. Getting her up and moving around, starting to eat a little more. Good Friday. Saturday was going well. My wife was a little concerned as her belly seemed to be a little redder. Iced it as recommended by the vet. My wife really felt something was wrong, Mocha was laboring a bit. Tried to get her up and she collapsed. My daughters boyfriend and I got her on a blanket and carried her to my truck and we rushed back out to MSU, but unfortunately her heart had stopped and they were unable to revive her. We lost our beloved Mocha last night. She was an amazing dog and family member. She lived a great life with us and brought us a lot of joy. The kids were 10 and 13 when we got Mocha and the family is heartbroken right now.

Several people I either know personally or online have lost dogs recently. It hurts to read bad news like that, because as a person who has never been without a dog and/or a cat in over50 years, losing one just rips one's heart out. They are family. I'm terribly sorry for your loss of Mocha.

sincere condolences on the passing of mocha.
we have always had dogs, the entire family has dogs.
we had 2 pass last year, 2 months between them.
and none of you guys put up that rainbow bridge passage.
i dont feel like crying

Riverdawg I'm so, so sorry to hear about you losing Mocha,
you have my deepest & heartfelt condolences for your loss
of and she sounds like great family member/loyal playful pet...

My oldest sister is a Vet., she's shared a bunch of knowledge
with me over the years & with my dogs, most made it over 14 years &
had similar symptoms at times...
Be aware;
Some rawhides aren't digestible, you need to be very careful,
many dogs get a thing called twisted gut too {labs it's really common},
it's "allegedly" extremely hard to diagnose,
or drinking too much water to quickly {again with labs}, water intoxication,
some of the symptoms are just like you suggested,
also heartworms are a big deal too, way too many animals get them,
hopefully it wasn't some tainted {Chinese}food or treats {far too common},
in any case I really hope she didn't suffer too much...
Sounded like she was a great dog...

RIP Mocha

I'm a true dog person, my dogs are loyal family...

I hope you get another when the time is right...

Scooter the yellow lab passed away in January, she was our 3rd lab. Great dog. Lucy the Basenji mix was dumped on us 3 years ago, she's the sweetest loving little dog we've ever had. Why the hell somebody would just dump her and leave is beyond me. I'm so greatful we've got her. People like that have a special place in hell waiting for them.

Thanks all, it's really means a lot. Thanks for the info Budnicks. If we do end up getting another dog, I'll keep that in mind. My mom's boyfriend offered to bury Mocha out on his small farm next to JD, his black lab that passed a couple years ago. They were buddies and we watched JD from time to time when Mark and mom went on some of their trips and Mark watched Mocha several times for us, so she'll be right at home on the farm. Thanks Ken

Something else about these two dogs, from the first day they met they acted like they grew up together. They were best buddies from that day on. I've never seen anything like it.
