I picked up a gagle of engines from retired mechanic/dirt track racer he had stored for ?? years. car will be fun driver, just want to feel the seat of my pants torque., like it used to before before playing with A bodies! seems like I always liked my 383 runners with 4 speeds and 3.55 gears better than anything. like said, this car is 67 Bel1 ....
it will be an 727, stock stall, here is what I have to pick from. several 400's complete engines..., 72-78 vintage. one is steel crank. also 452, 346, 516 heads , an edelbrock dual plane,... also a standard bore 440 cast crank block, less 2 rods/pistons, oem 440 intake ..... last but not least a complete 65 383 looks like never been part, complete afb down..........would have a closed chamber 516 head I guess?
i'm kinda thinking the 65 383 might be the ticket if good core.

no headers, just stock manifolds for sure.

this is typical deal for me,: low budget, old time hotrodding for torque, use what I got, minimal machine work and $$ spent.......old and wore out and retired poor!

any input is appreciated.

Go big or go home. My vote is for the 440. And it has just a little more aftermarket support than the 383 and 400 engines.

Depends upon what you want a go fast gas hog or gas mileage and some fun.

I havn't checked price/selection of pistons, and might even have some 400's or the 383 that can just need a honing. I admit to being partial to the 383.
I have had over the years many 383 roadrunners, 440-4 and 440-6 stock engines, even a couple hemis. I never have been a atrack racer. can afford to build something and break it, and always have the need to build one faster!!!! ha just a , for fun of the drive, seat of the pants torque guy.

The 383 is nothing to blink at. I once had a '64 383 auto. Head work, mild cam, headers. Had that heavy boat in the mid to low 13's. That car was a hoot!
Also had a '68 se Cuda, 383 four speed. That car was a handful.

If you have a complete engine to work with, that would be easier than taking different parts from different engines, trying to make one. Jmo
