Is the linkage the same for this as a regular automatic or is there special "slapstick" linkage?

Linkage is indeed different, as well as the transmission brackets, and an additional transmission bracket is required on the tailhousing for slapstick that is not required for column shift. Sorry for the incomplete page, but it's the best I have on this computer at this time.

Guess what I meant was that if the car already has an automatic floor shifter is the linkage different then?

It is not different if you already have the 71-74 factory console auto linkage, 71-73 B & 71-74 E is the same slapstick shifter and linkage. 74 B is known to have the round handle shifter. 70 E-Body shifter and linkage are different

I thought the only thing different was the shifter. I have one out of a 74 charger se and the only difference I saw was the round shaft and knob on the shifter and the indicator doesn't say slapstick.

Yes that is exactly what i stated, the 74 B has the round handle shifter and 70 E-Body the shifter and linkage are both different. I did not inc the 74 in the B-Body remarks because my remarks included the Shifter & Linkage thus would only be 71-73 in a B-Body

So the linkage is the same 71-74 in a b-body? I'm curious and thinking about putting it in my 71, with the t handle if I can. Thanks

Yes it is providing it was never changed. Shifters and linkage pieces where commonly changed over the years to incorrect pieces so what year or model it was taken out of many times don't mean that it is correct by application

What 71-74 B body floor shifter is not a slap stick?

I guess I don't know if I do. The Satellite I have is a 74 and was originally a 3 speed car that someone converted to an automatic and put an aftermarket shifter lever in it. My RR that I will be using the Satellite as a parts car had the slapstick shifter in it and as it is a shell I am trying to figure out the parts I need as I bought a year correct slapstick shifter and was trying to figure out if I have to find linkage. I know I need the actual t handle for it as all I have is the mechanism

If you could post some pics of what parts you have we will be able to help you find what you are missing.

Ill have to take off the shifter boot to do so and Ill do that at a later time most likely when I replace the carpet (yuk)

Old thread I know. Anyone know if someone is still making this? I'm intrigued about converting to a slap stick type shifter and the link is dead so I'm guessing these are no more.

PM me. I have one that I installed and removed because I switched to an NHRA approved cable shifter. I would be willing to let it go.

Does any company produce a 71 slapstick rebuild kit: like bushings, springs, washers, etc.?

The shifters are almost identical. You can swap the slap stick parts to a standard floor shifter. I even fabbed up parts back in the day to make a reverse pattern slapstick. See the lower dog plate and spring in the picture. Those are the parts you need.

Again, what 71-74 B body floor shifter is NOT a slap stick?

Are we talking about 75 and up that has the same guts except the ratchet, or the 70 and down that is quite a bit different?

...and what is different between a 71-74 E body setup and a B body setup?

The bottom of both shifters is the same. You can mix and match short rectangle shaft parts with the longer round shaft shifters.
