Need a recommendation on getting a pair of Traction Bars for my 1969 RR. Major wheel hop with this new 440 !!!

Thanks Tom C.

Nobody runs traction bars, man! What is next? Side pipes and a "Foot" gas pedal?

Better springs, better shocks and a properly adjusted aftermarket pinion snubber are the way to go.

My used to wheel hop when I had the rear end up too high. Lowering it to a more reasonable stance took care of that - back in the day.

I'm with Kern - I didn't think anyone used traction bars anymore. Got to be a better way.

If I had to use "slapper " bars, I wouldn't use any. Those are for Camaros and Novas--ugly......MO

Best kept secret- Mopars don't generally need traction bars.

Pinion snubber (adjustable perhaps) takes care of 90% of the issues.

I have caltracs my my hemi R/T......no wheel hop..also the mono spring...works nice...forgot...also frame connectors...prevent body twist...and a dana 60 when it hooks good....sugest frame connectors and braced 8 3/4 if using sticky tires

Usually a 440 and hemi came with a 7 on left and 8 on right leaf springs I believe or 6 and 7. All clamped in front. and every other in rear, then a snubber. called heavy duty. I have a 572 hemi in my 68 road runner with a 5500 flash stall 9 inch, mickey streets and a dana 354, with caltracs and good shocks front n back. You also need good weight transfer from front to back, by the way. I push 800 hp at 5900 rpm's and 740 fp tq at 5200 and it just hooks and goes. I also have mopar performance hemi springs. At 19 psi on my mickey tires, it will pull the wheels on the street. You should have zero problems with your 440 using anything close to what I use. I can offer other combos less expensive if you are serious, and want to build something/ Mine is just a street car. It runs on 93 octane and is a tame and gentle driver. but turs into a beast when I let the other 6 barrels turn on.

This is my car in 1979, note the super awesome traction bars.

How high is the rear of the car, what springs are under it and what shocks does it have? I assume your car is in fact a road runner and not a clone that started life as a /6 or 318 car with light weight springs? Are the leaf springs original and tired out because the 383 abused the hell out of them for years and years? It would be good to know what's under it since Mopars are usually not plagued with wheel hop problems. I've never been a fan of pinion snubbers on the street (not much of a fan of them on the track either) but in the majority of the cases you can manage traction issues with the right combination of springs and shocks. I've used link/leaf setups before too and they got rid of the hop on other makes of cars but didn't do much for traction with street tires.

Store bought traction bars suck but custom built low profile ones work well. They are made very close to the spring and the rubber bump is placed snug against the spring eye and NOT behind it. The store bought junk will bend the front of the leaf since they don't contact the eye area. An anti dive bracket is an option but never needed it for the hardest of braking. If done right with a car that's not jacked up, most won't even notice they are there and especially so if they are not painted yellow lol

Hey be nice on the Slapper Bars comments! I've got them on my car. Just haven't removed them yet, but for the time being I don't mind them at all. They are even the chrome Lakewood version to boot!!!

Newb Question.

How "Streetable" are Mono Leafs and Caltracs? I seen some with Stock Springs and Caltracs and some with Mono leafs.

Not great on the street. You obviously feel every bump. But as I said above they hook fantastic

The mono and caltracs usually go together...You can get a 1" over or 1" under stock.....stock springs....depends on condition, car and owners preference...the R/T and GTX in 67 had 7 leaf on one side...6 on the other...I went to the 1 over on My 67 R/T with the caltrac...my springs were cooked
