Got Scammed. Torn on where to go next.

These stories are surfacing a lot more often in the last 5-8 years since the price of muscle cars have risen its like if you own one your a multi millionaire.the restoration shops have gone from being reasonably priced to instant brain surgeons with the prices they are charging .I'm a vehicle upholsterer by trade if i charged these sort of dollars for seat repairs I'd have no work.

If this scumbag is still in business, contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. Next, contact your state's Attorney General's office and file a complaint. Did you have any communication with this guy via postal mail while you were away? If so, did you keep it? If so, contact the Post Office and file a complaint. You might even check on Small Claims Court, but this amount may be too large. My experience with this is pretty much a waste of time, but it may be worth it. File a 'lis pendens' (sp?) claim against his property - blocks him from selling it, talk to attorney before doing this. Quit playing the victim and go on offense.

I do thank you for your service to our country and rip-off artists like this scumbag needs to be dealt with harshly. Do it.

Thanks for the shared sentiment, though, I wouldn't say I'm playing the victim. I appreciate the ability to come here and vent a little despair at the circumstances around those that would understand and have likely been there before. I have the individuals name and information. So does the local townships police department. They are currently investigating it as a fraud case. Pending the outcome of the investigation, I've also been in touch with the State Attorney's office and they will pull his license to conduct any kind of automotive work within the state again. No communication via letter mail, all in e-mail and through my friend. My friends lawyers are going after the business' assets pending the outcome of a claim in the states circuit court as the value exceeds the $5.5k limit for small claims in that state.

Believe me, I don't care if it takes me 20 years, bringing him misery is now my new hobby. I will, however, do it correctly and patiently. Once I've exhausted all legal avenues without risking him seeking damages in return for defamation of character, I will begin to exhaust every avenue the internet and media-central world we live in has to offer.

**UPDATE 3 JUNE**

Well, the car is finally on a transport heading to Herb's shop. It should be there Saturday or shortly thereafter. Herb is at a show in Wisconsin I believe, so, we'll see what shape is really in after he gets back and has a chance to look at it.
