have a sloppy 4 speed shifter in my 68.. guess it needs bushings replaced ..how do I tell if its inland or hurst

I'd imagine you would find the manufacturers name stamped somewhere if you looked close enough.

"All Chrysler A-833s were equipped with Hurst shifters with the exception of the Inland shifter debacle of 1966-1968. The Inlands are pretty recognizable (they don't look like Hurst shifters!) and I believe the Inland-Chrysler relationship was rekindled in the Seventies with the Chrysler floor shift A-body and E-body three speeds. A nice feature of an Inland shifter is that it has a pull-up reverse lockout lever. Enough talk about Inland, the Hurst units are the ones to have! There was a huge variety of OEM Hurst shifters built and Hurst is still happy to fix you up with anything you need from shift rods to new shifters."

and Hurst linkages actually say "Hurst" on them

Do you need to pull up the "T" on the shifter shaft to engage reverse (Inland)or do you go over and up to the left (Hurst)? Is there a reverse light on the dash (Hurst)?

guess its a hurst .. its sloppy in gear its like a row boat ..just bought it and guy said he was told it needs bushing.. I think needs a new shifter ..seen the hurst for $219.

You can have your rebuilt or just buy a refurbished 1 from Brewers in Ohio. I'm having mine rebuilt soon
