@^%$ new gas tank STILL leaks!

There's a tool for that, maybe the hammering is damaging the locking tabs?
View attachment 341561
I'm aware of that tool, but I (like a lot of folks, I'd imagine) have a garage full of "one time" tools I never use again. Didn't want to add to that collection.
Besides, by using the brass drift and tapping rather than hammering (see my tiny little brass hammer in previous pics?), it was taking the abuse, being the softer of the two metals - so much so that I'm going to have to put a fresh end on the drift by use of my grinding wheel before its' next use.
The factory locking ring is a hardy unit. I'm not worried about it in the least.

try a little spear of grease between the top of sender and lock ring makes it spin around easier.

It's a done deal like I said, but yes, I did apply a little dielectric grease to help it along as you say.

Well, she has about 7 gallons of the gas I took out of it the other day back in it and I've run the car long enough to warm it up (and play with timing and such - I ALWAYS seem to want to tweak the timing on the thing for some reason).
Dry so far, but 7 gallons is hardly a test.
Reckon I need to go get some gas in her now. Fingers crossed.

Balls to the wall. Fill it til it clicks twice and spills like I do. Drive it, park it nose down. The ultimate test.

Ha, that was fun.
Took it cross town to an Exxon, not wanting any more of the "ethanol-free" gas I'd been buying (because that shiyat is yellow and nasty, come to find out!).
I had intended on throwing about 7 gallons in it real quick, but this is a small town and you can't drive one of these anywhere without drawing attention, so one gets to chatting with folks and...
next thing you know, yep, spilled a little and she's full-full.

Nothing showing under the tank yet, thankfully.
Gave it a good long drive, beat on it some, got back home.

I get out and immediately go behind the car and drop on all fours, looking:
Awesome.
'Course, I probably burnt 4 gallons coming home the way I was driving, but eh.

Weirdest thing, though:
I started hearing a faint gurgling sound, from what sounded like the tank.
Thinking "vent!", I grab the supposedly vented cap, expecting it to release pressure or whatever and - nothing.
Then, while the cap is still in my hand, I hear it again - a faint gurgling.
Hmmm. Almost like the thing is returning unused pressure back to the tank or something?
Beats me. I'm just glad the damn thing isn't leaking.
So far.

No sound when releasing the cap is a good thing. That means venting is happenenig. Let it digest. Time will tell. All ears here. Don't get the wife involved, too much drama. I had extinguishers everywhere (not a bad idea) and pans filled with kitty litter underneath. Did the gas gauge peg when filled?

Did you have sunglasses on when you drop on all fours it should be pretty shinny under there :drama:

Heck no LOL.
I almost counted on the gas gauge going wonky on me and sure enough, it has.
It's only reading about 3/8 full.
Weird thing is, though, that it did that the first time I put this sending unit in back when - and eventually worked its' way towards a more normal reading with time.

I checked the float when I had it out this time, too. Not leaking.
Oh well, small price to pay for no leakage.

Well, the tank did get a tad scuffed up whilst I wrestled it in under there, but I'll touch it up once it proves its' going to stay in there a while.

Update 6-11-16:
Nary a drip yet, knock wood.
I may get brave and stuff this thing full of gas one time just to test it....

Update 6-14-16:
Got about 3/4 of a tank in it now. No leaks and the gauge sort of is coming around. Knock wood....let's see how it does this week holding that.

Filled it until it spit back out of the filler neck on me. Went to a show 65 miles away and back. No drips or leaks (unless you call the thirsty 440 a "leak").
I'm officially calling this a success.

Do you still happen to have the extra OEM Gas Ring you mentioned in your other threads? MOPARMITCH is all out. Tried to PM you but your inbox is full.
Yep, for some reason it's laying here on my desk. :)
I just cleared my inbox. Message me please.

Ok Mods - you can get this "Please Do Not Post eMail addresses or phone numbers in posts - Send that info in a private conversation" flag off me arse now, thanks.
