The gauge was converted to volts by RED LINE a few years back, doubt there's over 25 hrs on it since. Stock MOPAR alt & reg setup. The needle straightens out fine under more RPM. Its been suggested to me to swap out the reg, which I will do. Any other ideas?

Bigs, have you measured the voltage at the battery at idle and then with the RPM's up a little?

No I have not... are you implying a battery issue? No issues cranking....

Perhaps one of the diodes is faulty in the alternator. It would still charge, but only 2/3's of each revolution.

My experience w weak alt's doesn't show that type of gauge action. ?

Is it a mechanical or electronic regulator? Looks like the points opening and closing on a mechanical unit.

Do you mean dizzy?? Mopar electronic

No the factory regulator has contacts that open and close depending on the battery voltage. This is what tells the alternator to charge of not.

I had that same thing happen to me!

........don't ask me why, but it corrected itself ~!:realcrazy:

If this is a 70 it should have the 2 field alternator with electrical voltage regulator.

Yes, 70 elec reg....

Sonny...doubt I'd be that lucky. Like to get it done before Sunday show!

I was wondering if your alt. is over or under charging. With it idling you should have around 13.5 volts. Any idea if you have a mechanical or electronic regulator?

Eric, elec.... I 'm gonna poke around tonight. I do have another reg I can try. We'll see where this goes, don't need any melt-downs that's for sure!

V., Let me know if you need a ride. Looks like it's going to be cooler Sunday.
