The broadcast sheet for my '69 Coronet has the axle code "579".

Can't find this online or in the GG white books. Any idea what this denotes?

sometimes the code is the last three digits (or two) of the PARTS number. So if you have a PARTS catalog for the year, look up in there and it may have a ratio.

All the 579 AXLE codes I have on file seem to be behind 69 B body 383-2bbl (G VIN) cars. They code D51 indicating 8.75 rear end, non sure grip and 2.76 gears.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out.

Thanks 69Coronetrt. Makes sense, as the fender tag has A07 (turnpike package) which I believe among other things would indicate "highway gearing".

No problem. Happy to help.

I don't believe I've ever seen A07 coded on a fender tag. Can you post a picture of the tag?

In that location, A07 is not a sales code. It indicates a scheduled production date of October 7th.

I'll confirm that on the 383 2v b body I have one and YUP it's a 2.76 open gear.... all the best my friends

I found this...the 2.76 would be the standard ratio behind a 383-2bbl automatic

Thanks. The original engine is on a stand waiting to be rebuilt. It currently has a recently rebuilt '67 383 with a TQ carb and mild cam (not sure what specs exactly). Not sure how well that is matched with that tall gearing, but it feels like there's no effort from the engine at 70 mph and it gets off the line well enough :steering:.

That is a cool ride you have. Do you have a build sheet you could share with us number junkies?

Thanks Big D. It's in pretty rough shape, but you may be able to make some of it out.

Thanks 69BB. The sheet is actually in pretty good shape compared to some I have seen.
