It's been a decade or so since I have had an automatic transmission rebuilt. What should I expect to pay?
I realize that pricing will vary depending on location, I'm just looking for a ballpark.

Thanks guy's.

I hope someone will chime in too, its been that long for me as well. I don't trust these shops, mines number matching looking for good shop in east texas.

Where at in East Texas? I am from Marshall.

All the quotes I have gotten in the Dallas area have been around $1,000-$1200 but like you guys, its hard to find someone I trust to work on them. From what someone told me, they are not that terribly hard to rebuild but I don't have that knowledge myself.

Yea Im lookin for a backyard mopar guy who knows his stuff, new a few years ago, but not now.

I took one apart in about 1984, yep its still apart in my shop LOL

I did one myself, and it wasn't nearly as difficult as everybody assumes it is. However, in my area, there is a guy that rebuilds torqueflite 3 speeds for $200 and you supply the parts.

I had mine rebuilt about three years ago and I believe it was about $900.00.

Just so you know, I was going to buy from them. Even though it said nothing on the website, they require you to buy a converter to get the warranty. I already had a new converter, so it was a no go for me.
Didn't know that, thanks.

I dropped off a 727 today. It started slipping real bad. Pulled it and took it to a repair shop that is drag race oriented. I didnt even hint at a quote. Thats because they will take it down, find what failed and give me a call. Then I can get a price to repair it. I will get the bad parts back. And if the price is too high for my liking I will pull it out. Of course I expect a service charge if I pull it.

Here in central Maine, there is one shop I'm aware of that has a great reputation. I checked with them and the quote was $1000-1200. That's rebuilt and all parts including converter. So, seems to be pretty close to other areas and estimates..

Thanks for the feedback guy's, it looks a $1,000.00 bill at least. I did get an estimate from a shop here in central Texas for $600.00 to $900.00 , but I never go with the lowest bidder. Hopefully I don't need a rebuild, the problem may be due to the kickdown linkage. We'll see ...

If you do rebuild it and are running some serious ponies, you may want to consider getting a billet front drum. It's unlikely but if you do a lot of burn outs you can explode the drum.

Improper kick down linkage can be a big issue. I'd go through the it and make sure all good. I found the wrong kick down on mine all together.. I went to Lokar. Might even be worth buying Lokar kick down cable and brackets. They adjust easy and will let you know how 727 really is. Then if doesn't go well, rebuild..just a thought...

That's the system I used, and it's well worth the price because of the reduced headaches

Since I was running out of time trying to get ready for the Power Tour, I made a few phone calls and found an old school tranny mechanic here locally that hooked me up. It was all in the (improper) kickdown linkage and adjustment, and now she shifts like a banchee! I had no idea it could have such an effect on the overall operation and performance of the transmission.

Thanks again for all the input guy's.
