It seems my hood needs to be pressed down upon closing when I have my new champion radiator in. How much clearance do I need between the radiator cap and the hood? Should I redo the brackets? This is the radiator they said is for my year/model of car but seems the filler neck on the radiator is too long. Ideas?

Put a small ball of play doe on the cap and shut it lightly, that'll tell you where your at. If it's smashed to the cap you'll be lowering it.

Great idea but I don't have children so no play doe. What else could I use?

Go to any hobby shop (or Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) and get a box of modeling clay. Works the same. Make sure there's a problem before you start modifying things.

Make sure it isn't too close or you may discolor the paint. It happened on my hood. I had to put some lizard skin on the underside of the hood to keep it from getting any worse.

I have about a 16th of an inch clearance on the driver's side of the cap moreso on the passenger side but the radiator it's self clears fine

Ok got it all bolted in stuck a 3/4 inch block of baking clay (its soft before baked and .97 cents a block) on top and didn't get squished. So i presume its good to go. I cant find a lower radiator hose to fit my 1973 440 in a 1974 satellite. Bought the hayes thats called for and its too long. I cut it and it keeps kinking either under the water pump or before the radiator. When it finally stopped kinking it was too short. Any ideas?

With out seeing pictures, it sounds like you almost had it, as most radiator hoses have a bit extra length on the straight run, in this case would be the side going to the radiator not the pump end, and can be cut back.

I got a new hose of the same kind and still kinked. I went through like 15 hoses trying to get one that will fit and nothing. I wonder if it has to do with the 440 coming out of a motorhome. So i ordered the radiator hose that fits a motorhome 440 and am waiting for it to come in. This is the biggest thing currently holding the satellite from running/driving

Lol had to get a 1978 monaco 440 lower radiator hose to fit
