Looking at a 62 Fury. Has 318/push button torqueflite. If I wanted to make a hot street car, which is easier-makes most sense-install 440, hop up the 318 maybe stroker or?, install other engine? Opinions please.

What model sedan? hard top 4 door sedan 4 door hardtop?

The Poly engines are making a big comeback now with a bunch of new parts being developed. A friend just did a 390 stroked Poly for his 64 Dodge wagon. He did say it was not cheap, he would have spent less doing a 440.BUT he wanted something different.

Does a 440 bolt in or does the K member need to be changed? Re-use old trans or new one required?

youll need a big block trans.
if it was my car,id hop up the 318 and enjoy it while you look around for a complete motor/trans Deal to popup.

on the k frame
mine was a 318 car and had a 383 big block installed.
i actually kept the mounts and the oil pan when i pulled the motor.
the pan also has a factory cutout for steering linkage.

Beautiful Fury but the 318 just kills it for me.

whats the price?
getting the best car sometimes beats getting the big motor.
at least to start with, always grab a good foundation.

440 without a doubt. Poly motors are a dinosaur.. they are getting some attention lately but the cost and availability of them is the problem... even if you hop it up it still wont run anywhere near a 440 with equal $$ invested.
You will need a big block trans too. Not a big deal.

$15k nut and bolt resto. Well worth it even though it's a 318. My moneys too thin at the moment though. I would have to install a 440,

Beautiful car.....go with the 440........I would think the big TF tranny would work, need drive shaft, & rear end...you would really have something special!

Nice 62. Drive the way it is until you decide what to do and save up for the build.

Do what every one else does, put a boring 440 in it and play follow the leader. Forget doing anything with that Poly, I don't want anyone having an engine like mine..I want mine to be unique so go with that 440..that Poly is a dog, throw it away..

^^^^^^^ Yep.Can't beat a good ol' Slant !!

Depends how much is enough. I have a 383 in my 62 Fury. Bolts in with no problem or do you want bigger still then 400 stroker or 440. 383HP might not make you the fastest car on the block but better than 318 and good performance and reliability.

BB cheaper. the poly is getting lots of new parts/development, but yes costs more. more power from BB. BUT< if you want to be different the poly is great. would be my route.
