Big surf at the "Wedge" here in SoCal again this weekend.
Check out the following story from the OC Register, complete with slideshow and video, of a couple that rented a personal watercraft and then proceeded to get wiped out by a 20-foot wave because they were where they shouldn't have been.
Read the story and watch the video - the jetski gets pummeled on the rocks and then washed out to sea.
The couple made it to shore with the help of the "Wedge Crew", local body surfers.

Well, that was a dumb move. They are lucky to be alive!

All that white water is full of air and aerated water aint no good for propulsion for a jet drive.

What were they thinking ?

idiots, damn lucky the wedge crew/lifeguards was there too

I wonder where they were from,
maybe somewhere without surf or an ocean probably...

I hope they have to pay for the wave-runner too !!

Looks like the guy on the back is black and we all know that blacks can't swim; what's he doing out on the water?

apparently those werent the only 2 in the gene pool that weekend..
check this out,i mean really,
how dumb are apparently a Lot of people?

Props to the rescue teams and lifeguards too,
i had No idea they had to go thru this so much..

Newport Battalion Chief Mike Halphide said there were upward 300,000 people who showed up in Newport Beach Friday through Sunday, and there were about 268 ocean rescues as of 5 p.m. Sunday, which was the busiest day with 107 rescues and upward 100,000 people who showed up on shore.

Laguna Beach was busy, but lifeguards did not have a tally on rescues by deadline. OC Lifeguard Chief Jason Young said there were 48 rescues on Saturday in the areas of South Laguna and areas of Dana Point, and it was just as busy on Sunday.

In Huntington Beach, there were 80 rescues on Saturday, and Sunday’s figures will likely be higher, said Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Claude Panis.

Damned noisy things anyway.
I despise them.
Idiots who can't surf or windsurf shouldn't be out in the breaks.
These things make enough noise to annoy everyone in a mile radius, and should be required to pay a large fee for the privilege. It's like having a fly stuck in your ear all day.

It just pisses me off when I see crap like this because taxpayers are continually on the hook paying for idiots like these to be rescued. Up here, it's generally people going off into the mountains without any idea what they are doing. They usually go off into the wood without the proper gear or checking the weather forecast and get into trouble. If they are lucky, they can get a cell signal and be rescued pretty quickly, but often they can't call for help and when the don't return it triggers an expensive search and rescue. They should be made to pay for their own rescues IMHFO.

I have lived in OC for my entire life. The Wedge demands respect!!! lots of people get hurt there bodysurfing... really bad decision to try to ride a jet ski there...

Oh, but it looked so rad when they saw someone do it on TV!
I hope they got some face abrasions in the trough, and went heels over head when the crunch came. That's how they'll learn respect.

Why does the story refer to these 2 guys as "the couple"?

I'm disappointed, there's no hot Baywatch babes in that video. What's up with that?

People ARE billed by Recuing Agencies. ...same as an ER bills anyone it intakes. ..collecting is another story. But it is Business as Usual, and bills, charfes are issued accordingly.......just like when my Late Brother had an insulin reaction @ a resaurant one day......damn straight He was billed for para medics, ambulance & hospital services. Nobody just gives the **** away without trying to be paid.....a possible scenario could be any victim that has a life insurance policy.....the expenses should become the responsibility of fool's insurance carrier......then it becomes a matter between fool & insurance company. Let those premiums fatten up by for life. Insurance Co owns fool for life at such point.
