should I buy? 71 coronet wagon

no im working over the summer and will try to get it by the middle - end of summer
 
I have a 73 Plymouth wagon don't regret buying it. But use it for what it is for, carrying stuff. Don't try to make it fast, although with a 383 it aint no slouch, If you want to go REALLY fast get an A body TOO, but the waqons are good for parts chasing, going to shows and you just don't see them. Be patient get a service manual and study it, find a buddy who can help and read these forums.The station wagon name came from wagons (with horses) for hire that would hang out at train depots to carry freight and baggage.

Wagons can be parts haulers, cruisers and pretty quick too. Mine ran low 12's

71-72 Coronets are my favorite mopar 4 door, and they are not that easy to find. But parts all interchange.
I want to chime in and agree with Slink. These are my favorite 4-dr B-bodies too. I like the big fratzog in the center of the 71 grill! (maybe the biggest fratzog of all time!?!) No major flaw with these cars. They were use quite a lot as taxis and squads (the 4-drs) and back then they were everywhere!

I've had the electronic ignition ballast fail on my 72 twice now in 120K, so I always carry a spare, and the boxed-in wrench to replace it (easy - only 5 minutes)
 
The wagon stuff really isnt hard to find. the rear door, interchanges up to 78, dodge and plymouth, the same. The back doors, are wagon only. fenders are wagon/4 door only, and 1971 only, 72 is different, but will work, 73 up, too many changes. The taillights are hard to find, again, one year only, but the back up lights are clear to 78. The rear dif came off the c body, so it is wider, and for some reason, the rear frame rails are closer to 1970 and older b body. The 4 speed was an option on the wagon. There where 7 pistol grip wagons built in 71, 5 dodge, 2 plymouth, very rare, yet forgotten.

Hey, nice to see another youngster on the page. I just graduated HS this spring. I have a few recommendations:

If your school offers an auto class/program, take it. You'll learn tons and might be able to get the car running in the class. My high school had a huge shop with 2 lifts, tons of tools, and everything I ever needed. Within just a few months I rebuilt the engine and transmssion in my 73 Charger.

However, don't stop looking for cars. If you can get the wagon, good! But there is always the possibility that you might find a similar mopar in better shape for dirt cheap.

For example, when I was 15, I tried and tried to convince my Grandpa to sell me his 1973 Charger S.E.. He refused, but made a deal with me. The deal he gave me was if I fix it and get it road worthy for him, it goes to me when he passes away. But I was too impatient, and found a 1973 Charger hardtop in a field. I talked to the guy for several months off and on to see if he'd sell it to me, eventually he said that he wasn't ever going to get around to fix it, and he agreed to sell it to me on one condition, that when I fixed it up he would get to see the car. He only wanted $500 for it. Good deals are everywhere, just keep your eyes out for them.

If you don't have a job, get one now. Mopars tend to be more expensive to build than a chevy or ford, and you will need an income to buy gas, parts, and general maintenance stuff. I hope that wagon works out for you!

Love the wagons. I learned to drive on a 68 Coronet 440 wagon, Ole Bessy. Once I learned to parallel park that tank, I was able to park anything !!!

I love these things. I have it's twin sister except color (mines the same copper color as the brochure) that I drug out of a junkyard a couple years ago, complete but been sitting since 84 so it needs everything. I also have a 72 plain jane Coronet wagon that was a daily driver for 5 years till a couple weeks ago when some jerk ran a light and t boned her, still trying to decide what to do with it. Hurt bad, not worth fixing but...
Only downside I've found is wagon only parts can be tough to find and sometimes pricy when you do but if it's complete that shouldn't be an issue. Mechanical stuff is no problem. Also, it seems everyone's (not just car people) parents, aunt or someone had a wagon in their past so you'll hear all the stories whenever you stop for gas, run into a store, ect.
 
that's a cool wagon if I had the money I would be looking for another mopar but my charger is taking all of mine its also nice seeing another younger guy with the same passion for mopars what are the future plans for it

Really nice wagon and looks to have the high back fron bench seats. It does look like it was parked yesterday. Looking forward to your progress. Congratulations and Welcome!
 
Saw that blue one on Ebay while searching for a parts car for my wrecked 72. Nice wagon, being a Crestwood it's too bad the didn't put the wood paneling back when they painted it. Could still be added I'm sure.
