So my OE saddle tan interior is long gone but I still have what appears to be a satin tannish colored dash, should I stick with the OE color? Or change it to match the rest of the interior?

If you have a black OE interior is your dash black??

my Newport has black interior with the metal part of the dash in black.

the GTX has white interior with that part blue though (the exterior of the car is QQ1 blue)...

Hmm i know the color per the oe specs is like a suede tone down non shine type color so i guess a suede black?

ya, you definitely do not want a shine to it. flat perhaps? idk

when I redid the steel dash on my Dad's GTX and on my Charger, I laid the paint down that I got from Performance Car Graphics and the last coat I fogged on which gave it that light textured coating similar to what the original suede paint had.

The problem original suede paint is that the ingredient, which I think was talc, in the paint which gave it that texture is no longer made or legal to use in paint. If you have a good painter, they should be able to control the amount of paint by fogging on the last coat which should give you that light texture like the original suede paint has. I was able to duplicate that with the dash frame that I did in my Dad's GTX paint.

Powders are available in any color and gloss rate these days, along with factory-matching textures like suede, leather and wrinkle.
Hit me up if you'd like to see some swatches.

Cudachick,

Are you talking powders as in powder coating type paint or regular paint gun paint that has the powder in it? I am not aware of any paint gun paint that you can still get the talc put into the paint and have it complaint with EPA regulations.

I believe she is talking about the various types of Powdercoats available on the market today...

I had a dash powdercoated that mimics the black dash paint and the color was called "tiger" black....it is close and only an OE nut or OE judge could distinguish it.

For factory correct paint I get mine from Instrument Specialties but as Brian said a good painter has to spray this to achieve the correct finish.

If you scratch either, they can't be touched up.

Paint can be touched up by either a touch up brush or air brush. Powder coating most likely would need to have the whole dash pulled and redone.

Powder coat cannot. Paint can but depending on UV exposure it will be noticeable or will leave a halo but better than a scratch.....

Powdercoat can take a lot of abuse versus using thin lacquer with no UV protection.

That dang OE correctness, I have to stay with the lacquer and treat it with a different type of care:thumbsup:

Yes, powder coatings. I'm admittedly the world's worst painter and will not give any input about it. << grin >> But I know powder inside and out.

I did the dash on my bee about a month ago and I used the paint from Kolor correct and it was spot on
to the original color and suede finish.

Any chance of pics?

Paint code?

if you search my posts you can see the dash.
Baltic blue is the color i believe

All those textured dash colors are available in spray bombs from OLD SCHOOL AUTO in Ottawa, Canada and can be shipped by mail ground. Also, they are still available in quart cans in lacquer in New York.

Check out the Rustoleum Textured spray paint. The pigment is slightly larger than OEM, but gives the same type of finish
