Anyone have any tips for installing the console cubby door on a 69 Coronet? I took it off to clean it and thought I knew how to put it back on. But when I do, it ends up misaligned. Looks like the front needs to be shimmed out to the whole thing to align.

Am I doing something wrong or do you need to shim it? Seems simple enough but I guess not.

You can see in the pic that the rear is off.

Right now I have the hinge flat against the side.

FYI, I took it off to clean it. But I needed it back on do I didnt get a chance to clean it. Previous owner thought it would be "cool" to put on carbon fiber decals over all the wood. Now I have to deal with that.

Don't feel bad. Mine is slightly misaligned as well on my '69 Road Runner. Being somewhat of a perfectionist, I've had it off and apart and tried everything to no avail.

When I took it off I noticed that washers fell out from behind the hinge. I guess they were between the hinge and the console, but I cant be certain as I wasn't really paying attention. Thing is there were 5 washers and 5 holes so the washers couldn't really be offsetting the angle.

Im going to take a look again later today.

I don't think the washers are there for alignment.
I've reinvestigated it 3 or 4 times before I finally decided to just live with it. Advise if you come up with an answer, but I won't be holding my breath.

The console doors never really fit well. I ended up elongating the holes in the hinge with a Dremmel tool to make it fit correctly. That is the only way you will get it straight.

There should be no washers falling out. They were shims from the last guy who tried to straighten it.

Hope this helps.
