At this time, I don't want to buy $300+ per tire plus shipping for a DOT legal high traction tire. I would like recommendations for a lower priced tire that gets the best traction and can be found at most tire stores. I don't care how long the tread wear lasts.

I have run BFG's for a long time.
I do like my Cooper Cobra's a little better. They are available in a wide verity of sizes in a 15 wheel.

It is hard to find "traction" in a street tire.

I think the tire rack has a spread sheet that you can sort by traction rating...iirc...

Also I wanted to add that I bought tires bfg tko2 last month for my 2500 most places wanted $250-300 ea, I got mine at pep boys for $180 ea. So when you decide you might want to check their prices... Sam's was the next lowest, just fyi..

I have ran a set of radials by Mickey Thompson on my 69 Superbee, big block 4speed car. They are the sportsman S/T series. Great tire for the price. They hook up better than BF Goodrich's that I had before, they are cheaper, and Summit will ship them to your door for free. They have a 245-60 for $130

What is bfg tko2 ? ...................................MO

Nitto's! gonna be a tad over 300 for the pair.

If you look at the specs (traction/tread wear, etc) you'll notice that both of the commonly found competitors to the BFG (Cooper and Master Craft) have better ratings, but cost less.

Newest version of the BFG AT's....still the same tread pattern, sidewalls have more aggressive lugs... For my Ram 2500 4x4....
Just wanted to show the price difference of some places for when you decide on what you want....

The specs are geared more toward the usual concerns in tires, such as wet roads, But I am interested in dry traction. Why don't they say " traction up the ying-yang , but not very good at tread wear " LOL... I am just interested in your opinion. Looks like there are a few options in that $300 per pair range. Thanks................................MO

CP, what are you looking to do with the tire? I don't think that has been asked yet...Are you wanting a drag radial that isn't $300 or are you looking for just an all around performance tire?
Imho for just an all around tire the BFG Radial T/A is a good pick. Relitively soft compound that will get decent wear, depending on driving habits of course....I have friends that swear by the Coopers.....I think as long as you stay away from the Chinese made crap you'll be ok..

I'm just needing street tires for my fun car that get very good traction , and doesn't cost near $300 each. I won't be bracket racing nor a lot of miles. hope never in the rain.
Just got my car on the road , and these old hard tires get very little traction until third gear. The Coopers have been recommended over the BFG Radial T/A I have new coopers on the front , so that would be a little good--What Cooper style- number should I be looking for? ............................Great input folks........................MO

I ordered two 235/60/15 cooper cobras from Summit Racing last night for $209 shipped to my door. I have two on the front already and like them. Best bang for the buck in my opinion and are still available to be ordered through any cooper dealer.
