Coronet colored headlights...

What's the history with colored headlights? Where did that come from and why? Thanks.

GE made yellow colored fog lights for export on cars destined for Europe. I bought mine on ebay a couple of years ago. Have never been hassled here in CA. An old man driving an old car; why mess with him?

I always assumed it originated with the LeMans cars. I thought they used them as fog lights at night so they wouldn't blind the other drivers.

Plenty of them on ebay that fir my '68 Coronet. Plug and play.

Back in the mid 60's many of us Michigan teen drivers installed fog lights in our high beam buckets and put them on a separate switch. Typically they were a JC Whitney/Warshawsky mail order item.

It was a great help in the snow blizzards, fog, rain etc. I often used just them and left the white low beams off to avoid the back scatter during such weather. Probably illegal now but isn't most everything in this current over reacting, overprotected world?

Actually the first time I saw the colored headlites was on Sox & Martins 68 Cuda. Ron

Decided not to get any since I wouldn't be able to inspect it here in Texas ... Would of been blue though...

Gosh, blue looks killer. Where would someone get a hood like yours? I'm loving the look of that.

Ordered blue paint like my buddy did on his old 70...my old 71 is behind his in Amber

Krylon Canary Yellow. It was a bit foggy when applied but the finish was crystal clear and dry in about 30 minutes.

Is this a new fad. I am not seeing the sense in painting bulbs. It's like having foot long leaf spring shackles and air shock extensions.

Nothing new, look at pictures of the Sox and Martin Plymouths with blue headlights. And back in the day yellow fog lights were thought to reduce glare.

Well since I do have shackles and air shocks on the car.........

Anyway though I bought krylon stained glass in blue and put that on some spare lights I had from another coronet, looks really good imo. I'll try to get a picture up soon.
