I've wedged myself under the dash (69 Coronet) and have removed the two bolts and spring to free up the push rod linkage.

I've also removed three of the four nuts holding the booster to the firewall, but am having trouble getting to the top right bolt (as from under the dash). How did you guys get to this one?

Thanks NJRR. I'd looked at that one and found it helpful for the pedal linkage bolts. Doesn't really shed any light on getting to the top right firewall bolt though (at least what I can see). Don't even see how I can get a socket up in there :(

Did you try a box ratchet wrench?

It's in quite deep and in a tight spot so I couldn't navigate to it with even my swivel head box ratchet. Thought maybe there's something else I need to remove to gain unobstructed access to it.

Removing your instrument panel will help, not too difficult either.

Yeah, doesn't seem too bad. I've wanted to replace the VR behind the speedo with a solid state one I've had lying around anyway, so this is as good an excuse as any. Thanks Car Nut! :thankyou:

Yea my dash was already out in that thread so a deep socket and a 2' extension out through the steering column bracket mounted to the body was what I used.

Awesome! Thanks Jim!

Getting this bezel out without cracking it is taking a lot of patience.

You can probably get it out but getting it back in is another story, need to remove the cluster

I've almost forgotten the original reason I was doing this. At least the kids aren't around to hear me.

Managed to get that last bolt free with Jim's method of using a long swivel extension and a deep 1/2" socket, though I didn't have to get the dash out first.

I think the worst of the battle is done...

Sending off to Booster Dewey? Mine is heading out Monday

I've already got a replacement unit and M/C sitting on the shelf, though I think I'll get a few bucks back if I send the old core back. Cleaned up and painted the old backing plate and fingers-crossed will get the rest back together tomorrow.

Prior brakes out of Texas did my booster, great job and price with super fast turn around.

I bet 3 bolts will hold it just as good as 4 on the reinstall :)

Just when I thought I was in the clear...

Seems that the plunger cover on the new booster is maybe a 1/16" wider than the stock one, so it won't sit flush against the backing plate and firewall. I guess I'll have to go pick up a dremel and open them up a bit.
